Fun interview with some cool insights.

That was very cool. I've always looked at life similarly as Campbell. And, having lived in L.A., I have the perspective of what Purdy was talking about. Different. Nothing bad. But sometimes 'different' is incompatible. For me, single, in my 20's at the time, living at the beach, it was heaven. But, if I were married, no way. If I were married, 10 times out of 10, I'd want to live rural in the Midwest. Just surrounded by better values. And, there's a difference between wealth and excessive wealth. 'Excessive' wealth can't buy good people, good morals, or a good life. That's something that can't be overstated.

We all know the real reason Campbell turned down USC: They wouldn't wear all black :jimlad:

Seriously though, I remember seeing an interview with Jamie at that time, and feeling like he was greasing the skids for a Campbell departure. The tone change that Brock mentioned was real. I had always figured it was because he was a finalist for Notre Dame, but this is the first I've heard it was actually USC. I don't recall even worrying about that opening at the time... Interesting stuff.

Campbell has reached the point in his career and with his success that he can be very choosy of when and where the next job will be. I would guess it would have to be in the Midwest, and at a place that would give them the opportunity and have the resources to win a NC. No sense in leaving ISU to just be leaving, to go to a school like Illinois or Minn. that is not going to win any more games than ISU and has less of a chance to make the playoffs. Everything I have read, says he and his wife love Ames, the Gilbert school district and as long as ISU can keep providing him with the resources to be relevant, he will stay, until that unicorn job comes along.

Full 2.5 hour show, haven’t watched yet to know if brick talk is all of it or part of it

Hope you don't mind, HFCS; the Brock interview begins at 1:23:40 if one wishes to avoid some crap talk at the beginning. The part with Brock includes some interesting 49ers talk as well as ISU. Good stuff, I thought. Thanks for the link.

USC was the only real scare I can remember unless you count media saying the Lions when they were to high to listen to their sources saying Dan Campbell not Matt.

The perception of ISU needs to change. The one host still seemed surprised that Brock chose ISU over a real offer from Texas A&M.

It seems that we sell recruits on the opportunity to "turn our program around." Purdy isn't the first FB or MBB player to use that line. I like that our emphasis in recruiting is now more about the quality of our program.

Don’t forget, from the 80s through the 90s, ISU was a bottom feeder program. The 2000s to 2020 had some program highs, along with the same previous lows. But those highs were still relatively moderate when compared to other programs, and were not sustained. So the perception didn’t really change for 40 years.

Now that Campbell is here, we’ve had continued sustained success. Which should change the program from being a bottom feeder into one that is respectable.
