Tyrese’s injury really sucks for him and creates a significant issue for the team next year. The Pacers just aren’t that good without Tyrese. I doubt they are a playoff team. That is how valuable he is to the franchise. All these guys are pretty much signed to come back and now it is potentially a wasted year when they had the potential to compete for the finals again. It is not easy to replace Tyrese’s skill set. Turner is a free agent. Does Tyrese’s injury change the decision with Turner or even Turner’s willingness to return. It all really sucks. I hope Tyrese has a quick and successful return.

Interesting notes related to Kobe Bryant's achilles injury:

1. It happened at nearly the same place on the court as Tyrese's.
2. He was guarded (fouled) by Harrison Barnes on the play.

Feel terrible for Hali today. His worst nightmare came true

With that said, and a bit of a different topic, NBA playoffs are way too long. The Pacers played their final regular season game on April 13. Playoffs should not take over 2 months to complete.

Pacers played 23 additional games, or another 28% season worth of games. This extra strain will lead to more and more injuries. The same principle applies to the NHL as well

I would propose this change:
Conference first round: best of 3
All other rounds: best of 5

Pacers would had played 15 playoff games instead of 23 with this structure. 8 games may not sound like much, but it’s about a 35% reduction in the number of playoff games.

But the reason this won’t happen is a drop of revenues. And the league would never approve this structure because of these lower revenues

I’d be bummed if I was an OKC fan. Cause this championship is going to be overshadowed by Tyrese’s injury and the Durant trade tomorrow morning
To piggyback on my point (and admittedly “bummed” isn’t the right word), but it’s already started. And I love Bill Simmons. He’s not some shock jock, he legit talks basketball

The slim silver lining for them, is they have all of their draft picks for the next 8 years. So if they have a down year next year, at least they’ll have their own draft pick to fall back on.

Not exactly sure.
When were you injured? Was it a complete rupture and repair? How did it feel and function after 9-12 months?
I was in college. Labor Day weekend. Had a boot since it was an 80% cut, partials are worse. I just had a boot to have it regrow. By Christmas I was out and most of my PT was done. I will be honest and say I didn’t work at PT as hard as I should have. I was back to whatever I wanted to do in about 7 months (remember surgery is quicker than non surgery and this was early 90s).

Couple local kids have blown theirs in the last 5 years and we’re back at full speed in 6 months doing everything. PT has come a long ways since me. This isn’t an ACL where you have to replace and get blood flow to start

The Finals have gone to mid-late June for about 35-40 years, earlyish June/late May before that. First round was best of 5 for a long time and then they switched it to 7 (gotta make that money).

The three days between games really seemed to drag it out although I just randomly looked it up and the '93 Bulls beat Phoenix in 6 games ending on June 20th so not that far off then either. I'd guess those seasons depended on how long other previous series went.

should be able to get an idea of recovery/return for TH based on Tatums recovery. Hopeful both return to full speed and form. Feel less optimistic for Dame

What exactly are they doing now thats different from any other point in NBA history? He could have just as easily tore his achilles the first game of the season. It's a freak injury. They could cut 10 or so games out of the regular season but leave the playoffs alone. My only gripe is the layoff between games. It seems like it's takes a month tonplay a 7 game series.

The game has changed, not the NBA schedule. We’re seeing the results of athletes specializing in one sport and playing a year round AAU schedule from the age of 5. The bodies just aren’t holding up.

Also, look at the bodies of NBA players 10-20 years ago. It’s a different level and the human body isn’t evolving as quickly as the sport.

I do think weight training and conditioning is so advanced now that is has pushed our muscles to a place that a lot of time our body cant structurally handle. In football especially. Guys that are 6-4 250 shouldn't be able to run sub 4.7/4.8 40s

At the same time hes saying a guy who had 4 points in game 5 is the real MVP.lmao.

Nobody is saying Tyrese should have been mvp (certainly not regular season). You look bad on a Cyclone board smearing him for the stat line in the game he first injured the leg. You really want to be like Skip Bayless?

It’d be cool if we all were happy a Cyclone was objectively a top ten player in the world at least before a tragic injury we don’t know he’ll come back from. He laid it all on the line playing hurt and it’s gross to see a Cyclone mock him for that.

Ive given him plenty of props. Hes a top 15 player. If he wants the credit people on this board think he should get he cant take nights off statistically. Thats why I cant say top 10 yet. Sad but true. Hes well on his way. I enjoy watching the guy play. Im just brutally honest in my opinions.
