Well if everything is just based on population then we’re not talking about the same things. Importance of the city should factor in amongst many other things. Nashville and Vegas are in the second tier. My rough list. Moved KC down to tier 3 actually.

Tier 1: NY, LA, Chicago, Miami, Seattle, Philly, DC, SF, Atlanta, Boston
Tier 2: Nashville, Vegas, Orlando, Portland, Minneapolis, Denver, Phoenix, San Diego, Dallas, Houston, Austin
Tier 3: KC ( very close to tier 2), St. Louis, Charlotte, Milwaukee, Pittsburgh, Ohio 3C’s, New Orleans, Detroit, SLC, S.A., Indianapolis (barely, worse place to exist in the USA imo)
Tier 4: Sacramento, Grand Rapids, Jacksonville, Memphis, Baltimore, Buffalo, OKC, Providence, San Jose
Tier 5: Wichita, Omaha, Albuquerque, Tucson, Knoxville, Birmingham, Des Moines (barely, could be off the list), Boise, Louisville, Fresno, Madison

Didn’t rate: Honolulu, pretty unique situation there. Not an exhaustive list, just off the top of my head.
The only thing way out of line on this list is Philly in Tier 1. That place blows and I think anyone that lives there, has lived there, or has stepped foot there would agree.

I believe the NHL or NBA team was “based” in KC for 3 years? but actually had home games in Omaha the final season….i think.
I think the Kings started as a bit of a joint venture with Omaha, but I'm pretty sure they played exclusively at Kemper their last few years. Im almost positive it was the mid-70s when they were the KC/Omaha Kings. They left KC in '85. The Scouts went to Denver and became the Denver/Colorado Rockies and eventually moved to New Jersey and became the Devils. Im not sure KC is large enough to support more than 2 major sports franchises. As much as I do like Sporting I reluctantly cant say MLS is equivalent to having an MLB or NFL team even given their popularity here. I mean KC has an amazing community of soccer fans which is why the World Cup is coming.

KC becomes a major Royals town when they are competitive. Everyone will tell you the 2015 World Series was better than any Super Bowl win.
Im not sure it was any better than the Chiefs winning their 2nd Super Bowl. I do think things that would have normally been massive in KC have been somewhat normalized given the Chiefs recent success. I agree the 2015 World Series was huge.

I like both cities but since I am a Cardinals fans, Stl wins. Along with Soulard, the Hill an Italain food area. And the area around the Blueberry Hill restuarant.

This thread is funny to me. I'm currently staying in Clayton for a 3-day swim meet that my daughter is competing in. We had pizza tonight and honestly it wasn't good.

This area is nice and STL is fun for a weekend trip, but I'd never want to live here. Traffic is bad. Most of the people come off as either depressing (poverty, drugs, etc.) or insanely full of themselves (stuck up rich, etc). There are things to do here, but for me the negatives far outweigh the positives. Oh and it's supposed to hit 99° tomorrow.

I can't comment much on KC. I've visited a handful of times, but never really got a feel for the place. Maybe that's as telling as anything. I will say that the people of KC do seem much more homogeneous/Midwestern.

Clayton is a far west subarb of STL. That area is nice, besides the ballpark downton Stl is nothing great.

Clayton, Chesterfield, etc. Seem like suburbs in the worst way. People trying to one up each other. Sure they have top golf and plenty of other fancy facilities, but the people come off fake and insecure.

Downtown, south stl, i270 corridor, etc. Don't feel particularly safe. Feels like you see a bunch of people struggling to get by.

Some quirky places like Delmar and Forrest park. The zoo is nice. It's definitely not all bad... just definitely not for me.

Go north of I70 just west of downtown if you dont wanna feel safe. Slightly better than East Stl.

I don’t need to have been there to know it’s where Liberty Hall is. It’s 1A or 1B or 1C in terms of historical importance with NYC and Boston.
I nailed that one. Where does Kensington Ave in Philly fall on your 1a,b,c, scale? It's pretty darn historical as well.

Greater KC is no doubt cleaner and friendlier than greater St. Louis. The interstate system in the KC area spreads KC out more so traffic isn't as bad. St. Louis has always been kind of a dump. There I said it. The people in KC are absolutely more Midwestern and hospitable than people in St. Louis.

I must be the only person that loves me some St. Louis style pizza
Its not bad. Their style of pizza is more proof they aren't Midwestern. I think the Midwest is kind of deep dish country. My favorite pizza place ever is Pagliai's Pizza in Maryville, MO.(not affiliated with the ones of the same name everywhere else).
