In hindsight, definitely would’ve rather had Palencia for the 10th. But if Pomeranz gives up a run in the 9th, everyone’s wondering why Palencia didn’t get the 9thNot the best game for Cub hitters. But looking for positives, Horton was Skenes equal today. I like that he was efficient in his pitches today- throwing 76 in 5.2 innings.
But there were a couple coaching moves I would question:
- Happ getting thrown out at home on Tucker's double in the 5th. I am OK with 3rd base coach being aggressive on outfielder throws to cut down a runner at home. But it appeared Happ was just rounding 3rd when Kiner was prepping to catch the cut-off throw. IMO most shortstops are pretty accurate to home at that distance.
- It's a nit, but throwing Palencia in the 9th. I understand Pomeranz has been solid. And his strike-out rate is similar to Palencia. But in extra innings with a runner starting on 2nd, I'd personally prefer Palencia's fastball at 100mph. Also might be tougher to bunt on. Just switch- Pomerantz in 9th and Palencia in 10th (if there was one).
Sigh of relief. I thought Happ was going to strike. In hindsight, definitely would’ve rather had Palencia for the 10th. But if Pomeranz gives up a run in the 9th, everyone’s wondering why Palencia didn’t get the 9th

Just when you want to write him off. He gets a bases empty HR.Man, Swanson fails again
If someone was on base, it would have been a strike out.Just when you want to write him off. He gets a bases empty HR.
I am glad that he hit home run but it also showed his general approach at the plate, swing as hard as he can regardless of situation.Just when you want to write him off. He gets a bases empty HR.
He hit a foul ball Down the ref line before he struck out on a pick that clipped the bottom inside corner. I n general I agree with you but usually the pitch dictates.I am glad that he hit home run but it also showed his general approach at the plate, swing as hard as he can regardless of situation.
Show me on the doll where Dansby Swanson hurt you...Man, Swanson fails again
