Caleb Williams looked into ways to avoid being drafted by the Bears

In a way, I don't blame Williams. He wasn't very impressed when he met the coaches and he turned out to be right.

This quote made the coaches look really incompetent.

At times, Williams said he would watch film alone, with no instruction or guidance from the coaches. "No one tells me what to watch," Caleb Williams told his dad. "I just turn it on."

Maybe with what we know now with Sanders in the draft, maybe players will begin to bomb interviews of teams they don’t like.

I get it because he’s good enough to have been a Jayden Daniels level of impact on a decent team/organization.

So a multi billion dollar franchise drafts a good quarterback and just lets him watch film with no direction? Wow. Sad that the ownership cares that little about the growth of their players and even less about their fans.

Counterpoint to Caleb - if you are a top half of the league QB, you’ll be beloved in Chicago.

With Ben Johnson, he should have all of the support he needs.
If he throws for 4,000 yards, the city will put a statue of him outside Soldier Field.

On the flip side, the Bears probably wouldn't pay to move it to wherever their new stadium ends up getting built (if their new stadium ever gets built).

Maybe, but it appears Sanders bombed with every single team he interviewed with. I'm guessing that wasn't the goal.

There's no way he's the only one.

You're still getting paid millions to play the game but you have to go to an organization that's....never (?) been stable and it can't be looked at favorably.

Elway notoriously did something like this. The 30 for 30 of Elway to Marino showcased his agents efforts to not be drafted by the Colts. And who can forget the Mannings' attempts to not have Eli play for the Chargers. Going to be interesting to see what crap they pull when Arch gets drafted.

They didn't do anything when Peyton got drafted, he went to one of the worst franchises in all of sports Indy was a Qb graveyard. Why do you assume they would do anything for Arch?

The really interesting thing about both the cases you mentioned is that both guys were 100% correct, both won multiple super bowls and both will be in the Hall of Fame.

I wouldn’t mind if Arch wins just five or six games and the wheels come off at the end and Sark loses his job. That would be the bomb dot com.

Bob Irsay had recently died and Jim was taking over. One of the first things he did was bring on Bill Polian who was well respected in league circles. They also hired Jim Mora. That was a decidedly different situation than the Colts at the time Elway was going to be drafted.

I think Eli may have been just as successful with the Chargers as the Giants. Although, the additional picks SD got in the trade certainly helped improve the team.

Eli's career is so weird. The guy has the 2 Super Bowl wins and a then a whole lot of nothing. Only category he ever led the league in was picks; never received even 1 All Pro nod and he's probably getting in first ballot.

As for the Bears... I love the Bears but Caleb was right to question going to the Bears. The McCaskey's don't fire coaches until they absolutely have to, but these clowns last year were so bad they broke the glass on the 1 thing they never do and that's can a coach in season. They have built their entire organizational identity on defense for over 100 years and they went out and broke the bank for one of the brightest offensive minds in the game. That is un-bearslike

Will it work? Who knows but I am shocked they took the swing.
