*** Official 2025 Chicago Cubs Thread***

Lol, Brujan just looked like when you move up from the 65mph pitching machine to the 80mph as a 12 year old.
Unless they put Morgan on the 60 day IL tomorrow he's the likely DFA move to add Horton. He or Lopez are on borrowed time as 1 will go when they call Shaw up.

WTF, let the kid start and see what happens. This is another kids glove move that has the potential to mess up his development. So tired of seeing guys tear it up in Iowa only for the big league team to not give them a fair chance. If Horton is not going to be part of the rotation he needs to stay in Iowa.

Going to need to trade for more pitching if this team is going to compete down the stretch. Top 2 guys in the rotation are hurt, 1 out for the year in Steele so now relying on a Taillon who is maybe a 3 or 4th starter in most rotations, Rea who is a career journeyman, two rookies in Brown and Horton, and another backend of the rotation pitcher with a history of injuries in Boyd. Pair that with some questionable guys in the bullpen and we are only in mid May right now they are just 1 more injury to the rotation from having to rely on more journeymen pitchers they picked up off the scrap heap in the offseason or minor league guys that have had mixed results.

So far some of these guys have panned out in small sample sizes with Flexen, Pomeranz, Hollowell, Keller, and Cosgrove but can they keep it up or will they come back to their career averages at some point. We said during the offseason bringing in a front end of the rotation starter and 1 or 2 lockdown late inning guys for the bullpen was needed and with the injuries we knew would eventually happen not addressing that could come back to bite us,

The offense is in a small funk at the moment but I think it will be fine. Especially if they can get 3B figured out, hopefully when Shaw is eventually called back up he can improve the play we've had there. Have some bats in Iowa if the offense gets into too much of a funk where you can try to plug in Ballesteros, Caissie, or Alcantara and move on from Turner.
Hopefully they can play 500 ball while Shota is out. Just don’t have that guy that can fix a skid when needed.

My guess is he gets 2 or 3 innings to get his feet wet tonight and then gets the start Friday against the Sox when the rotation spot is up again.

I don't hate it and it's not like they're going to bring him in tonight in the middle of a dirty inning or anything.

Not sure Horton starting or coming in relief is a big deal. As far as how it impacts the rest of the staff, it might make more sense to use a couple openers and slot Horton for innings 3-6 or 4-7.

My bigger concern is Carson Kelly's hand. It's probably hurting a lot more today than last night.

I wondered at the time if Kelly might have a couple broken fingers. Hope he's ok.

But he's a starter. Why would you use him as a reliever? It feels like over-think. Use him as a starter.

They like to **** with these guys when they bring them up.
