Many places shut down roads in and around stadiums and yes it does help, i have seen it first hand.
Even KU makes surrounding streets one-way for postgame.

If you plan on going that route this season, remember that Stange Road is closed off of 13th, they are only allowing one lane going South right now, and detouring everyone over to Grand to go North. We started the head north up to 13th st strategy last year and it was a game changer!
Yeah..... but you're in Iowa City. Still a problem. It's easier to get out of Iowa City and that cramped horrible setup than it is to get out of Ames. I don't even know how that's possible. All you have to do is flip some roads one way, like they do with Melrose, and boom problem solved.
This detour is from 13th to 24th, and the current one-lane southbound traffic is "supposed to be done" end of this month. However, then there's still the center and right parts of Stange to completely redo.If you plan on going that route this season, remember that Stange Road is closed off of 13th, they are only allowing one lane going South right now, and detouring everyone over to Grand to go North.
I hope you are right, they have 3 lanes tore up, and figured they would end up tearing up the far west lane that traffic is using now to go south, when they paved the far east lane going North. Thereby letting you go North there, and divert the southern traffic over to Grand. But maybe the west southern lane is complete. This detour is from 13th to 24th, and the current one-lane southbound traffic is "supposed to be done" end of this month. We live in way west Ames north of Ontario (13th) and when headed to Somerset/north we never go to Grand. We take the entirely residential Northwest Ave to 24th with very few other cars. I'd cross my fingers this won't be an issue by fall.
Not sure because nothing's been done to the far west lane, and also wonder -- because I can't remember -- if the ultimate plan is one lane north and one south with a center turn lane. A tunnel or bridge at the corner of 16th would be huge, lot of people trying to cross over university from the stadium and it ties up traffic.Lincoln Way westbound is what needs to be shut down out to State. That isn't a practical solution. You can go basically one block at a time because of the lights. Ideally the NW ISC is forced out that way.
No street parking in the neighborhoods west of the stadium and forcing all of that gameday parking out to MoleBio with priority CyRide service to and from the game would be a HUGE improvement.
All pedestrians east of University using the bridge would be a MASSIVE improvement but people would lose their minds. A tunnel like under Center Street would be a game changer for the south end.
Northbound University should be shut down from LW to 30 and all traffic should start in the southbound lanes which go either to westbound 30 or Airport Road. At the stop lights you should be able to switch into the northbound lanes to go south to 30 eastbound.
Beach to Mortensen westbound should be the option for the west side of the ISC south of Center Drive.
Haunted Forest and RV lots to E 4th.
NE ISC to LW east bound.
The problem is every time you limit something you inconvenience enough people who will ***** and do what they want anyways and **** it up for everyone. State is a problem in the scenario above. South Dakota is a problem. Duff is a problem. Lincoln Way is a problem. Vehicles moving, even if not in the right direction to start, is the winning formula. The guy in the NW ISC who lives in Pella and refuses to take LW west away from the stadium is an issue. Same with the person wanting 30 east to 35 north from the A lots.
Post-game tailgating FTWOur solution is just be patient. We don’t get in a hurry to leave the stadium and kind of like watching the crew cleanup and cart the equipment away
Never once experienced any traffic after a game!Post-game tailgating FTW
Looks like C1/C2 and B1 and VetmedI pick this afternoon. Any update on what's available currently?
We gave up our tickets back after Rhoad's last season. We lasted one year in front of the tv before we re-upped. Really messed up our donor points!Yeah, I'm very sad to say I was one of them who gave up my football season tickets after 30+ years of Cyclone Club membership. And our seats were perfect: top row of lower bowl on the 35-40 yrd line on West side.
This season would have averaged around $660/home game for our two tickets + parking + seat backs + donation. My wife and I just finally decided it's too much for us to keep spending when we've got so many other competing priorities.
I will be cheering faithfully in front of my TV this fall, but it's gonna be really hard.![]()
Just watch out for deer...We live in the CR area so we just get on Lincolnway until you get to that old school and then shoot down to 30. Sooo much less stressful.
That could be... or more of the higher donors dropped out, thus moving the rest of us up the pecking order. I guess we'll know when the season starts and we see how many people show up. ISU also may have some new people buying seats (lower donor level) coming off an 11 win season.Season tickets must really be down this year. Last year I only had the option of C1/C2 and Vetmed. This year I had the choice of A,B, and D3 as well, which are all above my "projected minimum donation level". Still went with C1/C2 because I can't pass up all the grass space that comes with those lots.
What I found last year were lots of on ramps to 30 closed off to traffic. I tried going east on Lincoln way and then south to Dayton. No go. Closed.
