A lot more spots were available this year than last year at my selection time at the same level. A3-D3 were still open whereas last year only the C1/2 B1/2 Vet were available. Two years ago, I was on vacation and didn't log in until 8 hrs after my time and only had B1/2 as an option. I'm guessing nationwide including ISU attendance will be down as a greater and greater portion of fans are priced out or disgusted by what "college" football has become.

We started the head north up to 13th st strategy last year and it was a game changer!

I've done this many times myself. Just take it all the way over to Duff and back down. Then out of town. :)
We live in the CR area so we just get on Lincolnway until you get to that old school and then shoot down to 30. Sooo much less stressful.

It's amazing how poor of a job they do moving out game day traffic. Jack Trice has the perfect set up. You have the North lots that have multiple options for exiting and the south lots moving in a completely opposite direction. I don't understand the hard on to push all the traffic south out of the north lots.
This. We live in WDM but go north and work our way to 13th and then head back south. No clue if it is faster or slower but we usually are moving.

The 1st home game of the season will be pretty telling.. If the lots are more sparse after winning 11 games the prior season, then the 20% increase was too high.

The university and the city need to work together to shut down streets and force traffic one direction depending where you park. Block off University at Lincoln way from the North going South, and empty the lots around Hilton to the North towards Lincoln Way and everything else must exit to the South. The street by Vet Med and the GA parking must go east. It would solve a lot of problems.
In a few years, things will be even more hectic. Happened to catch part of a City Council meeting discussing Capital Improvement Plans, and the Lincolnway bridge over Ioway Creek is slated to be rebuilt. Design phase is scheduled for the 28/29 Fiscal year, with Construction expected for the 29/30 Fiscal year budget. There was also discussion of trying to take the bridge down to 2 lanes during construction (which would then likely take 2 construction seasons to finish), or completely close the bridge which should allow for rebuilding it in one construction season.
So still a few years out but that will really impact traffic not just for gamedays but in general for Ames.

Can they knock that out in one construction season, before School resumes in the fall?

Great question, and one would certainly hope so, but personally I have no idea. Basically everyone on the city council cringed when realizing how big a headache that will be regardless if done either all at once or attempting to keep two lanes open throughout the construction process.

Not even remotely true. WAY too many pedestrians to deal with. Way too many traffic lights in the immediately vicinity which don't allow for traffic to get away. Lincoln Way is a traffic disaster. Duff is a traffic disaster.

And no...shutting down all the roads for an hour after each game to let traffic out isn't a solution.
It is a solution at many places. I have never had as much trouble getting out of any other sports lot than Jack Trice or Hilton. Many places shut down roads in and around stadiums and yes it does help, i have seen it first hand.

Because a lack of planning on your part isn't the problem for Ames residents within a mile or two of the stadium to solve? You are a visitor to Ames. They live there. You are in their town. You don't get to call the shots. You are a guest.

Do you have guests who come to your house and then kick you out of your master bedroom and tell you to sleep in the guest room? Because that's effectively what you are suggesting.
Dumb, so dumb.

It's 6 or 7 days a year and impacts a small portion of Ames, super easy to plan around.

It's easier to get out of Iowa City and that cramped horrible setup than it is to get out of Ames. I don't even know how that's possible. All you have to do is flip some roads one way, like they do with Melrose, and boom problem solved.

I am suggesting closing the south lane from Lincoln Way on University down to highway 30, there are no homes on that stretch of road. Closing 16th street to the east to traffic going west over to Grand would again affect few people, as there are no apartments until you get to Grand going east.
We are talking ONE hour here after a game to close those streets to through way traffic, who in the right mind would go down to the stadium on game day if they do not plan on going to the game? If you live within a mile or two of the stadium you should know not to go out on game day a few hours before or after the game because it's going to be a zoo.
