If any of you deal with anxiety, what are some good ways to handle it? I have had it a bit in the past, but for the last couple of months it has gotten out of hand, probably due to some stomach issues I have been dealing with, which the doctors have not figured out yet. The anxiety gets so bad that sometimes I vomit a lot and often times I have a difficult time catching my breath. I started taking anxiety meds and they seem to be working pretty well, but not always.

First, let me emphasize that you are not alone. You are one of THOUSANDS of people who feel exactly the way you do. And I mean EXACTLY.

Second, it's valuable to understand what causes your anxiety. Do these feelings seem to follow anything in particular, such as receiving bad news, drinking a lot, or a bad night's sleep? Stuff like this takes many forms, so understanding the underlying triggers can be extremely valuable.
 
Echoing what others say here, exercise seems to work well for me.

Sounds like you have a doctor in some capacity with the meds you're getting. Hopefully you feel comfortable leaning on them for extra help and direction too.

I've found talking with others about it seems to help take its hold away too.

These are just me things, and I appreciate that everyone's situation is different. Know that you can get through it, and folks are rooting for you

My job is two-fold. Behind office desk, or PHYSICAL field work.
Zero anxiety re: the latter.
The latter isn't necessarily "exercise," tho getting worn out?
A natural drug, unto itself.
No idea what your job entails, but I'm GUESSING, office-related.

Yeah, wish I would have been seen for it decades before I did. Still have some issues but it is largely situational now.

Trying to navigate anxiety with my 11 year old daughter right now. Just when we figured out her night terrors with limiting screen time before bedtime by having no screen time after 6:30 she recently started having panic attacks at random times to the point she will hyperventilate. She doesn't know what triggers the panic attacks. Have even had it happen in situations where she was having fun. Trying to get her some counseling but finding most places have waiting lists.

First off, sorry to hear about your predicament.

I believe anxiety meds can take quite a while for them to work as intended.

As for vomiting, I had issues, and it turned out I had developed acid reflux which was causing it.

After confirming with an endoscopy, prescription medicine helped big time.

I have a friend, female, young 20s, and it sounds like she is battling something very similar to what you are facing.

They are still trying to figure out best treatment and lifestyle adjustments for her.

I hope you find help, but I love that you asked for help. That's awesome. There should be no stigma around mental issues.

I am trying to learn what triggers it and have been taking notes. At times I can control it through breathing exercises, but other times it gets bad. Most of it is fear that the stomach pains could be something serious.

I was in my early 30's when I experienced my first of many anxiety attacks. To say they were awful would be an understatement. I got through them by repeating three things to myself whenever I felt an attack starting to come on:
  1. You are not gonna die.
  2. This feeling will pass.
  3. You need to focus on things outside of yourself right now rather than what's going on inside you.
Those things helped me cope. I also agree with the others who stress the importance of regular exercise.

Hang in there. You'll get through it.

That really sucks, given a 5th grader?
Hope some/Many forms of counciling prevails over drugs.

My sister has been dealing with anxiety and stomach issies (Crohn's) for a long time, so I like being around her and talking about it. Has been very helpful.

Have you tried box breathing?

Inhale through your nose for 4 seconds...
Hold it for 4 seconds...
Exhale through your mouth for 8 seconds...
Hold it for 4 seconds...
Then repeat.

I do deal with anxiety and while this is by no means a silver bullet it definitely does help bring me down in the short term.

We don't want to do medication. She had a random panic attack around 9pm at friend's sleepover recently and her friends were really supportive so gives me comfort that se has some great friends. Our hope is if we can get her some counseling and work on breathing techniques she will hopefully eliminate them or at least know how to manage them.

Yep, I work in an office. And we are shorthanded right now so there are only two of us every night until someone gets hired and trained, which is going to be a month minimum. I loved the job for many years, but now it is just getting very stressful.
