Sorry if I’m late to the party. Busy day. Any news/rumors on who is at top of Tennessee’s list for “portal” QB?

As far as I'm concerned, this looks like more of a traditional roster construction. Great returning core, a few transfers and a really solid incoming freshman class. I'd still love to see another transfer for experience and overall depth, but we can compete for big things without that. Margin of error just gets smaller.

I think Tamin will be our leading scorer next year. He can finish at the rim and he can shoot now. He'll be a senior and know he needs to get his to make this team go.

I feel like otz might surprise us this season and we will be really good idk I js got a good feeling even though we don’t look amazing as of now
A lot will hinge on a few variables:

1. Jefferson and Momcilovic take the next step. Both were good players this past year, both need to become great to offset losses of others. If they are the same players again, the ceiling lowers tremendously.

2. Heise is ready for an expanded role. He showed well down the stretch once Keshon was hobbled and shut down. Need more of February and March Heise, he can not revert back to November- January Heise.

3. The transfers have to be replacement level at a minimum. In other words, Buchanan, Mulder, and Williams have to makeup for what we're losing in Jackson, Chatfield, and Gilbert. I do think it could be a wash between the 4 post players, but expecting Williams to be a one for one replacement to Gilbert, even a hobbled version of Gilbert, is probably asking a bit too much. Which Ieads me to

4. Need a couple freshmen to step up. Specifically one of the guards, since that is the most important position in today's game and the area of thin depth for next year's team. Ideally some combination of Toure, Batemon, and Williams mentioned above can work together to replace Gilberts production and spell Lipsey on occasion as well. Anything we can get from Mitchell and Pleta will be a bonus next year in my opinion.

If these 4 things hold true, then other variables would still need to go in our favor. Injuries specifically, since it appears that we are going to have at it with just 11 scholarship guys.

Not as athletic as Royce, but better shooter and nearly as good of a passer. I remember the 20+ assist game White had, maybe against Texas A&M? PG level passing skills!

One area Jefferson may improve on White is his outside shot. He has good form, hoping off-season practice will make it more reliable (35-40%).
Seemed like last season, JJ was a pretty good 3 point shooter the first 15 or so games. Then when the injuries started piling up, his mindset changed. He would be wide open for a 3, but would hesitate and then try to drive for a closer shot. Man, they leave you open, take the shot!! I hope he gets back to shooting those 3s when he is open.

No mention of Jones? Just an oversight I hope? Lots of back-court production that needs replaced (Gilbert/Jones) by the combination of Toure/Batemon/Williams.

It’s disappointing not to have another transfer in the wings, but I think keeping the core together is a much better value than starting over. 25-26 feels like a lower ceiling, but a higher floor. If the defense comes together, it could be a really fun team. I’d love to be in the Final Four conversation every year, but that’s just not reasonable. I’ll be at Hilton either way.

Looks like a favorable schedule! We would normally be playing 4 home B12 games and 5 away, this year. With the Ireland game v K-State, a neutral site, that makes it 4 and 4. And we get Iowa at home.

Let's Go!
Edit: Wrong thread. I'll switch this over to FB.

I didn't mention it, but hopefully an increase in production from Heise, Jefferson, and Momcilovic can offset the offensive production from Jones. I think between those 3, you could come up with the 17 points per game you were getting from Curtis. The two freshmen and the transfer guard are unknowns yet, so I slot them more into the Gilbert replacement, whom was kind of an unknown commodity or wildcard down the back half of the season.

This is spot on. We need development from returners. I'm not sold on Mulder, but after watching tape on Buchanan, he could be first post in a while that can score from more than 2 feet from basket. His floater/half hook from free throw line down is excellent. One other thing that could help us improve from last season is to start now in learning to value the ball. Last year was one of the worst teams I've seen in just careless turnovers. Hope that gets corrected.

If his floater/half hook shot is so excellent from the line maybe he can shoot his FT's that way - only halfway joking. Not excited for the ~50% number...

Having 3 bigs that hit at a 70%+ rate was such a nice change of pace last season. Really don't want to go back to the FT's are turnovers times.

All of what you said is what I've been thinking.

I will add, Tamin can and will elevate his game from last season. His soph season vs jr season, numbers were down, he was humble and allowed Gilbert and Jones to step into the spotlight. This is his season.
