I think guard is mainly the problem Mason Williams will be good but the freshman are gonna neeed to step up if we want to be good. Also why doesn’t anyone talk about xzavion Mitchell he’s playing out of his mind offensively
Mitchell, a really good HS player. It would be nice if sees the court and does well for us in his Freshman year. He may need a year or two to develop into a Big12 player.

I suppose this applies to every Freshman though.

I want to see Jefferson with a more Royce white type role this year. Hoping lipsey stays healthy for once and really looks to score more this year. We need momcelevic to stay healthy as well and not take nights off and even become more of a scorer. If those three take big strides to how good they already are then I think we are in great shape if we fill in a few of the roles we lost. Loved Gilbert but we might be 5 turnovers less a game without him.

I’m not sure Jefferson is that level of talent, but he’s also more consistent.

4 things need to happen.

1) someone ponies up more NIL to the ISU collective
2) no freshmen no-shows or can't-dos
3) milan, tamin and heise need to take more shots (and make more shots). not worried about JJ
4) other programs are also over budget and we end up getting 2 more suitable last minute additions

it will be a struggle to get a 2 or 3 seed like last 2 years; but TJ is a great coach and he's good with xfer assessment.

You need to realize what people are lamenting is the opportunity cost- the fact that this is when a program would have been taking the next step just a couple years ago.

Now, due to being middle of P5 in player compensation, there’s not much building on the success of the last couple years. Instead, it’s hopefully doing it like before, with filling holes with unheralded transfers and freshmen

On the other hand, some programs are climbing in hierarchy because they can buy more proven players in the portal
Sounds like you are chalking up the upcoming season as a failure before it even starts. Why? Because you arent impressed with the 2-3 transfers we got in the portal? You must be an expert talent evaluator, huh? Ill trust TJs track record here.

These people lamenting over the "opportunity cost" were probably the same people lamenting and complaing when we signed a program building block like Rob Jones and Jaz Kunc.

These people lamenting are probably the same people who are FURIOUS we rarely have a freshman contribute, and then turn right around and ***** and moan when we dont recruit over the incoming freshman guards in the portal. Do you want stud portal additions or do you want some freshman to earn some minutes and develop them? Cant have it both ways...

We are going to need the student managers to really step up to have success this year. Concerning, since I just saw a online post about accepting student manager applications.

For all the debbie downers out there I will go ahead and say it.

Mason Williams will go down as the best transfer of the Otz era to date.

Right up there with Brockington, Jones and Jefferson. People are sleeping on him. Get him in a big time strength and conditioning program and put 10-15 pounds of muscle on him.

That’s a completely crazy statement after Jones was all big 12. Williams will be a good transfer to have but he won’t be as good as Jones

Sure, but from January to the end of the season, in the games he played, he averaged around 10 ppg, 3.8 apg, 3 rpg, 2 steals (including an 8 steal game against BYU) and 4.3 tov. Prior to January, he averaged 14, 4.2, 4.1 and 2 and 2.5 in a little over a year plus. He also played in 8 less games this year compared to the year prior, and DNP’d 4 out of the last 7. The numbers by themselves aren’t bad numbers (other than the tov), but surely not “all-conference”.

All I’m saying is while we do lose Curtis and Keshon, the Keshon we lost was a shell of who he was last season and very early this season.
Yeah and we lost alot of games once Keshon got hurt and played that way.

The fact he was offered and committed immediately tells me what TJ thinks about his game. He was not a plan B. I think he will be a solid contributor next year.

No, I appreciate how you’re coping by resorting to several fallacies. Honestly it’s impressive

I’m not thinking the athletic level of RW but more the ball in his hands more facilitating

Perhaps you’re too young to remember, but Royce was better with the ball in his hands. Basically a point-forward with a 35% assist rate. And more athletic. And bigger. There’s a reason why he was a top-40 recruit out of high school, had a UK offer as a transfer, and a 1st Round pick. When White wanted to be, he was one of the most talented Cyclones ever

Jefferson isn’t as talented, but could play better under this staff due to being more coachable

Why is that a crazy statement? You think we wont have any more All Big 12 caliber players? Ever? Mason has better handles, he is taller, has a longer wingspan than Curtis. Better physical measureables across the board.

Watch CuJo's transfer highlight tape from Buffalo and watch the video of Mason Williams I posted above. Watch them and ask yourself at that stage of their careers who you would think has the higher ceiling.

Fallacies? You act like it'll be a Christmas miracle if any of these newcomers/freshman are any good. Would love to go find the Curtis Jones and Keshon Gilbert commitment threads. Im sure you were less than thrilled with those commitments as well.

While I love your enthusiasm-and hope you're right-that would be incredibly fortunate if he is better than any of them. I'll be happy if he provides solid backup minutes, but we'll see

What is incorrect with that statement?
It's really for all of your recent comments saying Mason Williams will be better than Cujo. Curtis Jones might be a top 20 player in the COUNTRY this year and singlehandedly won us 6-7 games in the middleof the year when everyonewas playing terrible. Give the guy some respect. You're being preposterous saying Williams will be better.
