Great Moogly! The way he scores on every play, I expect him to be a 25ppg player for us next year.

Seriously, seems like a very talented player. Excited to see how he fits in.
I agree, I've been thinking all along this is ISU's best recruiting class since Halliburton and THT. I think at least 3 of the freshmen could end up getting serious minutes on next year's team. We would square up as an OK tournament bound team, will be fun to watch with some highs and some lows. But a potential powerhouse brewing for 26-27 if TJ can find a true PG replacement for Lipsey.

I suspect Rhode is over valuing himself. The Portal is littered with guys just like him or better in my opinion. Tall guys are making the meat of the money in the portal. Centers and Power forwards with some elite guards getting some pay. I don't think Rhode is anymore Elite than Heise to be honest. In fact end of the year Heise is super solid in that spot.

Rohde’s market is materially better than Heise

He’s already turning down bigger money from other programs when narrowing it down to WI and ISU

He’s looking for fit

It's on the Iowa Everywhere network so I understand it. I would have somebody else do it, if it were me. I'm sure the interview was interesting, but I wouldn't want an iowa dork interviewing a new ISU coach. It had to annoy iowa fans, at least.
Yeah, have somebody else do it would've probably been the way to go about it. Murph and Andy would've been a good choice. Not sure how Hassell would be in a one on one interview setting.

The middle-aged fans around here may remember Tim Barnes, who was once described to me by someone close to the team as "has a jet up his a$$". Toure seems to resemble that description!
High as a kite with a jet up his @$$

How do you know he has turned down better money? Did he come out and say that?
The same way you know “tall guys are getting the money”

I like Heise, but there is a bigger market for a 6’6” starting P5 guard that can play pg, sg, or wing, than a 3 and D wing that largely came off the bench

With some of these transfer targets, I get the feeling the coaching staff is trying to give all the freshman every chance possible to get minutes this year.

There's still a chance they'll surprise us though. It's early in the season yet.

It’s weird that popularity of the sport isn’t plummeting. It for sure is for me. I followed less this year than ever before.

I also have to keep remembering that this staff is just going to face a huge disadvantage every year. Sweet 16 is probably this programs ceiling. Going to mostly be 1 and 2 seeds in elite 8 and final fours going forward.

It's where we have to butter our bread. Freshmen or multi-year transfers that can overperform expectations and give us a discount to stay. We've done a great job of retaining our main stars, which is awesome. That's where I'd prefer to spend our NIL money. But if we aren't replenishing the coffers with young talent, that plan doesn't work.

Didn't they just spend a ****ton on their football roster this past season?

Yeah, but they also took $51 million from the university in 23-24 (last year in the Pac12). NIL is clearly there, but it seems (from the outside) like they were trying to spend themselves into prosperity.

The lasting memory i have of Tim Barnes is that missed layup against TOE in the NIT. That was him, wasnt it?
I had to do research, not a layup, but a missed short shot & desperation shot at buzzer. (Barnes and Sullivan were a combined 4-for-26 shooting).

I don't remember that game firsthand at all, I must have had other commitments.

That's what it was! Fun fact, it was dead silent as we walked out, and then some ******* inbred yelled "Go Hawks", and thus became my origin story so to speak of hawk hatred

I don't think he did turn down higher amounts of money. I think Wisconsin and Iowa State were the first ones in on him and gave him offers. Also, Everyone knows Centers and Power forwards are getting the highest amount of money in the portal. The "He turned down more money" thing sounds very made up by a message board poster and you ran with it as fact.

Lmao you’re the one throwing **** against the wall

You posted you thought Rohde overvaluing himself, rampant speculation, and then posted that there are guys like him littered all over the portal.

Neither is true. Far from facts.

Nebraska is at least one school that offered him more. If you don’t believe that, you can believe any of the nil info.

Btw, proven P5 guards are very expensive.

Hold told you Nebraska offered him more? Just curious. I want to find out how you are getting your info

In the NIL (Name, Image, Likeness) era of college basketball, power forwards and centers (often referred to as "bigs") are generally seen as the most valuable positions in the transfer portal, with high-end talent at those positions commanding significantly higher NIL deals than even top guards.

Here's a breakdown of why and what to expect:
  • High-Demand Positions:
Power forwards and centers are in high demand because they can be game-changers, especially in college basketball, where one dominant player can make a significant difference.

  • NIL Deals:
For high-end talent at those positions, deals of $1 million or more are becoming increasingly common.

  • Guard Value:
While top guards are also sought after, they typically command roughly half a million a year, or even less.

  • Examples:
    • An all-conference guard might be looking at $450,000-$600,000.

    • For bigs, what was $600,000-plus for an all-conference player is now over $1 million.

    • Some sources say that top point guards have received multiple $3 million offers.
  • Other Factors:
    • The more players a team has, the less valuable each player is.

    • Teams are getting "wild with money" in the portal.

    • The money component could keep more borderline draft picks in school than ever before.
