We didn’t have major injuries

An injured finger causing a 3 and D wing, that doesn’t play good defense, to miss 6 games. A groin pull in December. A game missed because of illness.

As I said, conference play is often attritional. That will hurt the underfunded programs the most. 2023-24 is outlier in that we had extremely good luck on availability

Money matters in college athletics more than ever. Much more than even two years ago. This has in-court impacts. This is indisputable
lol alright you have yourself a fine Tuesday

Scheer hinted at this. They did the same thing with Ballo last year.

I could see teams that are loaded at positions to just not care that someone is leaving. Totally makes sense. Why spend money on a kid when you have three other players that might be better.

I know many of us wanted Cluff but I am pretty happy Buchanan is a Cyclone.

Blake has as much talent if not more than Oscar. In the end Oscar is more developed thus got the bigger deal but doesn’t mean he’ll be better next year in ISU’s system.

Like you said we will get to see Oscar Vs Blake next 2 year to see if the coaches are right to bet on potential upside over the vet.

Purdue will be good but so will ISU, likely it’ll be a top 15 battle.
I'm happy with Buchanan. He looks pretty athletic and strong, and really goes after offensive rebounds. If he can make a decent amount of his free throws, he'll be good.

I'm surprised to not see Jackson on this list.

If he doesn't get an offer better than what he would get at ISU, could he return? Buchanan replacing Chatfield. Seems like that could be an improvement at the 5.

Might not be readable but it says Cluff was estimated at 1,900,000 as NIL value

This part of College Athletics sucks.

Remember back in the day when Student-Athletes were happy getting a few dollars under the table and a Basket Weaving degree?
It’s weird that popularity of the sport isn’t plummeting. It for sure is for me. I followed less this year than ever before.

I also have to keep remembering that this staff is just going to face a huge disadvantage every year. Sweet 16 is probably this programs ceiling. Going to mostly be 1 and 2 seeds in elite 8 and final fours going forward.

Mason Williams has solid stats and his actual player comp is Curtis Jones at Buffalo. Two guys who had solid averages at Virginia, so stats are not going to look as good. And then Mulder who actually had decent stats but great efficiency ratings.

People are upset because people expected to pick up guys as good as Keshon and Curtis when they left here. They’re then mad because Cluff chose Purdue over Iowa State and we got Buchanan, the guy who’s rated one spot behind Cluff.
shooting 34% on 4 3 attempts per game does not compare to Cujo shooting 36% on 8 3 attempts per game. Abdi Bashir Jr. from Monmouth would be my Cujo comparison.

I, for one, look forward to a healthy Lipsey putting that twerp Smith in hell while Jefferson facilitates down low. Bring it on.

Cluff is really good, it would’ve been nice if he’d committed. But may I suggest all you doomers organize a group therapy session—at a park, perhaps, so you can literally touch grass. Remember when Iowa State had one of the best back courts in the country on paper, too, and Jackson was scoring in double figures against Auburn? Good times… Unfortunately, by March 4 that meant jack. Why exactly should I care how good Purdue’s roster looks and declare a sixth-place finish (oddly, ridiculously specific) the best case for Iowa State in fr****** March? Gracious, the way some people talk it’s as if Otz’s teams have never beaten opponents that have players who have more raw athleticism or better stats, or were big fish in the portal. Pray tell, who was the number one team in the country preseason? And their NIL budget? Ah, well, surely they’re in the Final Four?…

Hammering people over the head about how it’s really really hard to win a national championship if you don’t have gobs of NIL money is literally just a Debbie Downer sketch—it’s true, but serves no purpose and just makes everyone else annoyed. Following sports is a hobby, sometimes it’s just about getting caught up in the moment and having fun. And hoping for a lucky break. It’s not supposed to be a sober intellectual exercise whose purpose is to continually take account of deficiences and tally the reasons fans can’t reasonably even expect moderate success. Though I only speak for myself. I don’t watch sports because I think one of the least successful P5 athletics programs in history is going to wake up one day and be Duke basketball or Ohio State football. But delusion and hopelessness aren’t the only paths. Every season, every game, every half something can happen that was entirely unexpected and statistically improbable. Maybe Iowa State will make yet another Iowa State play. Maybe they won’t. We watch to find out. I know I’d be miserable and therefore wouldn’t watch if I couldn’t help but fixate on Iowa State’s NIL budget and continually remind myself that on paper they have no realistic chance of success forever and always
And just because you spend a lot on money to make a splash on players doesn't always translate to success. See the Kansas schools as exhibit A.

Can we afford this kid? 2 yr to play. Won't be surprised to see him land at the P5 level.

The more I read about him, the more excited I am about Mason Williams. We need ball-handling next year and he played PG in high school. In limited action, he was a good 3 point shooter as a freshman and was a good 3 point shooter in high school. Maybe the injury did affect his shooting last year. We need shooting and desperately need more ball-handling next year. He should be able to help in both areas.
