Sure, but if you're watching March Madness, coaches are finally letting the cat out of the bag in interviews that no, it actually isn't guys that are great screeners or good defenders that are the most important ingredient in good defense. It's guys that score, handle, and make good passes to keep as much of your defense out of transition as possible.
And I think the idea of Watson as a great defender is a bit overblown. He's a great rebounder. He's really good at coming off his guy and blocking a shot. They tried to play him and defend a wing or even a 4 that could handle, and he struggled.
Seems like a guy good enough to get some minutes in the right role. Seems like a good teammate. Kid played hard. And I don't really want to try to read between the lines of TJ commending Kelderman's daily habits and say that Watson didn't have those. In fact, TJ had commented positively about Watson doing those things. I think it's a matter of TJ needing a guy that could shoot and handle to steal some minutes, and Kelderman was that guy. So TJ commended him on his work, simple as that.
1. Does the amount matter? When they get paid NIL are their scholarships then
revoked? So they are getting paid on top of free room and board. And I'm not thinking.
2. Absolutely would still be critical. You don't remember the Hoiberg and Prohm days? Not only did it happen on this site.....it was almost encouraged. Especially the Prohm years. The reasoning was that players don't read these threads. Now it's a problem? Better tell them to stay off this site.
3. Feelings? What has ISU basketball become now an encounter group? Again, read above about the Hoiberg and Prohm years. Heck.....I can even remember the Morgan years. No one cared about "feelings". And didn't matter their age.
4. Back to #1. These players are getting paid plus free room and board to represent a PUBLIC university playing a............game. Fans have been critical of entertainers since the beginning of time. Sticks and stones. Or as many on this site said during the Prohm years.........its part of the job.

I don't think anybody is questioning Watson's daily habits. I believe he works hard and I do know several people that know him and they all universally say that he is a great kid.
TJ has shown that he prefers having two ball-handling guards on the court at all times. I don't think Heise is quite there. In hindsight, it looks like a mistake to have not played Watson. His D could have been helpful. However, Watson's lack of handle is something the athletic Mississippi team could have exploited.
He took over a 2-22 team and led them to the Sweet 16 the very next year and 4 straight NCAA tournaments including a team that was top 5 for at least a time in two straight seasons, already more tournament wins than any coach in ISU history. Anybody who is questioning whether this man is the right coach has some insanely high expectations for a coach at Iowa State.
This isn't a blue blood program, this guy has been hugely successful for a basketball school like this. He's a generational coach for this program and we should be very grateful if he doesn't jump ship for greener (literally) pastures.
So about potential incoming transfers - am I naive in thinking the longer the Cluff decision drags on the worse ISU's chances are? Some have said the "do not contact" tag is basically meaningless, while others have said it means he already knows which shortlist of schools he will choose between. In the past, we've seen transfers commit on or right after their visit. Hearing reports of Cluff talking to Purdue and Memphis after allegedly being on campus here does not seem to bode well.

It really comes down to what his priorities are. If he's looking to maximize his payday, we're probably out. If he's looking at the total package, I'd think it would be between us and Purdue.
I do not think players should get death threats/racist comments, or hate because of gambling. That being said, with the money that is now in college sports, I think fair criticism is warranted. Kelderman is a great story but the reality is he is a D3 player at best. The fact TJ couldn't adapt and come up with a lineup without him is a ding on an otherwise stellar coaching resume.
It’s been rumored that TJ wants his main players paid equally. Blum had said the presidents were north of 250. To get Cluff something may have to give there.
Of course. Any time a kid doesn't commit, on the spot, it's a moderately worse scenario. If you ask a woman to marry you, and it isn't an immediate "yes", there is a greater potential for a "no".
There are also a few games when Cade came in to spell Tamin for a few minutes and played serviceable defense and mistake-free offense. What's your point?
If this is to be then this year's transfer portal and recruiting class was a complete failure. TJ would have some questions to answer
I don't think anyone is questioning whether he is the right coach or not for ISU.
But it's naive to think he doesn't make mistakes.

Honestly, I would stick with that plan rather than upset the apple cart, unless you are going to raise up the compensation to others.
Not about any one comment directed at any one player. What started this was when you said essentially that players who leave were asked to go. I said if we don’t have evidence, maybe we should hold off on presenting suspicions as facts. Given the fact that many on this board said pretty terrible things about a senior that were not true. We need to do better. Anything past that are responses to your replies.
I don’t really care who you are or what you do. I just want us, as a fan base, to slow our roll a bit with throwing around things as “facts”.
I'd guess they tried Nojus and it didn't work so you have to have someone out there to manage the ball while Tamin is at about 60% if that.
And I know they were out there together.
Tamin's leadership off the ball may have been needed to help direct things and still be a threat from three while Cujo got some rest.
I keep seeing mention of Watson being the best athlete. I didn't see that. He has length and maybe decent hands but seemed to not be able to keep up with a dribble drive or cover space and couldn't do much beyond a putback.
Those comparing him to Rashon Clark or Pratt need to go watch film of those guys.
