Iowa High School BEDS count 24-25

They are only top 36 in football due to free and reduced number, and football doesn't play in conferences. In all other sports Norwalk and DCG will be like 45 and 46.
Both schools will be in the CML in the next 10 years or less, the growth of those districts over the past 20 years has been amazing. Throw in Waukee will be needing another school by then, and also maybe Ankeny. The 5 metro schools are never going to have a chance to compete with the growth of the suburban districts.

And they shouldn’t have to. This is how it goes in large and growing metros. The suburbs play the suburbs and the city schools play each other. The city schools in C-Bus all but gave up on state accolades minus some men’s bball teams that pop up with a Sullinger or Trey Burke. Mostly from Northland.

The city championship is the big deal for the city schools.

They have previously asked and been denied too. The conference doesnt want them as they do recruit players. Carlisle and Bondurant both just played them in substate and got an up close look at them. Not happening. They should try Little Hawkeye.

Im pretty well connected to things RCC and hadnt heard the Van Meter rumor. Guessing there isnt much to that.

Carlisle was 8-14...Bondurant was 11-12.

I don't think who might be playing for DMC was the issue.

DMC recruits? They haven’t historically so that must be brand new.

Norwalk, indianola, and DCG are 4A basketball but there is generally a big gap between them and the CIML (0-9 this year). That being said DCG beat waukee in bb last year in playoffs i believe.

3A DMC didn't even win their conference. 1A Madrid did and 1A ACGC was second.
Exactly. Anyone who has watched them play FB or Boys BB would be easily convinced they don’t recruit. They have 100 kids on the waiting list per grade. Pretty sure if they were recruiting they could hand pick much better athletes. Again, I don’t know if this has changed recently but I’m pretty confident this hasn’t been a practice historically. Do they have other significant advantages? Absolutely.

I’ve seen the email discussing an invite to Van Meter. You may not be as well connected as you think.

Crazy to think when I was at osky, we were the smallest “big” school. Always quite the awakening to play 2/3 a all year then play dowling, Lincoln, Iowa city city high etc.

I'd say in smaller districts kids/families 100% are moving for sports. The district can probably get away with it because they're not experiencing many actual move ins. These families can say all they want that it's for other reasons than sports, but when a good athlete is leaving a district with poor athletic performance and magically showing up on a competitive sports team, it's not a coincidence. I'll pick on them a little, but Aplington Parkersburg pulling two African American kids out of East Waterloo and Cedar Rapids a year ago to play basketball and using the excuse of "they came for a better life situation" is something. Crazy how they just happened to be good basketball players....
Little late to this but catching up on the thread. I live in the AP area and the heavy majority of the community was not fans of that situation. There were a lot of negatives from all that that far outweighed the positives in my opinion

DMC jumping To the 8th largest 3A school

Woodward Granger up to 2A

Just talked with my RRC person and there has not been an invite. Van Meter was discussed with a handful of other schools and that happens every year. Congrats on seeing an email.

Well, it is a email in which the RRC ADs are saying they’d like to extend an invitation to Van Meter for the 26-27 school year and are asking the conference administrators for their blessing to begin discussions.
