I thought an older college wrestler or @theshadow might be able to answer this.

I know the only time a pound weight allowance is allowed now is on back to back weighins.

Back in the day, did college wrestlers get weight allowances similar to high school?

I also thought I heard that college was an inverted decent. That you got a weight allowance at the beginning of the season, but at NCAA tournament you had to make scratch weight.

Anyone remember if any of this is true?

Thanks

Nice enough day shouldn't you be out working ground or heck even doing some early bean planting!?!?

Why not set reasonable weight brackets and have to reach them 1 hour before wrestling. I know all you wrestling fans will say this is unreasonable. If all wrestlers have to meet the same goal, what is wrong with this?

I am more interested in the history of what they did years ago. Maybe it has always been the same.

So one hour instead of 2 hours is your issue???? Seems to be not that big of a deal.

Buf - you are correct for us old timers…in the early 80s I believe we started with 2 lbs through Dec then 1 lb in January and scratch wt sometime in February. Might be off on the allowance and timing but it was a decent.

Thanks. I vaguely remember they had to make scratch weight at NCAA
