Deon said there are 3 teams he will not allow his kid to play for. I'm assuming he'll tell those teams not to draft him. got me thinkin, why woud a top level guy at any position go through the draft when they could sign as a free agent an hit the open market a year earlier. Teams can pay whatever they want, precedent is set year to year by the position.

I think they are still bound to rookie contract limitations.

It’s a pretty big risk. You still wouldn’t be a free agent after the first year. You’d still have to go through the draft process a second time.

And then, if you didn’t re-sign after being drafted again, you’d become a free agent. But, you’re earning a whole lot less money for 3 years than if you had just played for the team that drafted you (until you could be extended). And that’s IF you turn out to even be good enough to stick (at this point the player would be 25-26 years old).

There are very few players good enough to even do that. I could see more kids doing this if the NCAA would let kids come back to play CFB if they didn’t like their draft position.

I'll speculate who these teams are. For sure the Jets. I'll guess the others are included in this group:

Raiders
Browns
Bears
Jags

These teams have the weird ownership situations. The Cowboys could be included in this group too but he liked it there too much.

I don't know the rules, I'm assuming there would be kids that would have tried that in the past. If your really good, your first contract would be lower but I'd think the agent and player could negociate a good incentive laden contract.

Can now add these 6 slots:

19: Tampa Bay
20. Denver
21. Pittsburgh
22. LA Chargers
23. Green Bay
24. Minnesota
SF has to get Brock a blue chip offensive tackle. Then a center later in the draft. The center for SF was a complete turnstile this year. They also couldn't run it in the red zone at all. Hoping 49ers really nail this draft.

They have a bunch of picks. Gotta fix that OL first. And probably get some DL help. I'd probably have a hard time passing up Warren (TE) from PSU if he fell that far, just because he's a really good weapon.

Noel feels like a great fit there as well given the KC connection.

I know that Higgins is a really good player, but in the NFL, everyone has guys like him IMO. Good size, good catch radius, good after the catch, decent but not great speed. I don't think he'll ever be WR1 anywhere, but could easily be WR3 in a lot of places with a chance to work up.

I do think that Noel has a lot of value. He's not your typical small slot WR, he's built like a RB. You can put him in motion for screens and jet sweeps, but also he's big enough to play over the middle and not get killed. And, he's a plus ST player. I'd love for him to get a shot with the 49ers, as they'd know how to use him. But he'd also do really well for teams like KC, Philly, Buffalo. Someone is going to get a really good player in the mid rounds with him. I'd be really surprised if he doesn't make a roster.

NFL Network's Draft Expert Daniel Jeremiah 1st Mock Draft. Doesn't have a QB going at #1.
