Was going to go down to the lake house in the Ozarks a few weeks ago but they got 12 inches of snow and ice. Ummm I guess Ill stay in Iowa. Which I have never said to avoid snow.

Anybody seeing that KWWL will be losing local meteorologists? Can’t wait until severe weather season gets here. I bet the forecasters in Atlanta will be really concerned about our safety here in Iowa?!?

Oh you just have to tell her it's 12 inches. Guys have been doing that for years.
Our kids had a delay too. Hopefully all those busses that sat outside all night don't break down today while a bunch of kids are outside waiting for them.
Yes, I have watched KWWL for decades and will now probably switch to KCRG. What a stupid, shortsighted decision. Nothing against KWWL, I know it was the corporate holding company.
Our school had a delay planned which is what it is and made plans to get kids to school. Oh wait at 7:30 right as we’re going to work they decide to cancel it so now has to scramble to find places for the kids all day. Irritating because nothing about this was unpredictable. If it’s snow and they were waiting on road conditions I don’t have a problem with late cancellations but today was just annoying.
Officially a blizzard in New Orleans!. Holy ****. Snow everywhere and coming down so hard i cant even see across the street.
i tried to pelt the 6-year-old boy next door with a snowball, but it wouldnt pack--still too powdery.

Superintendents always say whatever decision they make there will be a bunch of people B’ing about it. Cancel, and it’s not THAT BAD. Delay, and if it’s so bad to delay you should just cancel. So on and so on. These decisions are what every parent goes through. Buses may have gelled up and they didn’t want to put a kid on any.
It snowed Bubly blueberry pomegranate in our garage overnight. One can out of four. completely blew the cardboard side of the box out. The other three cans were completely fine. Just took a brush and dustpan to clean it up.

This is absolutely nuts. I saw yesterday that the group that owns KWWL and several other TV stations was cutting the local meteorologists at all their stations, and replacing local weather coverage with The Weather Channel. I literally didn’t believe it at first - local weather coverage is a linchpin of Midwestern TV stations, it’s their biggest promotional point and a primary driver of viewership. I couldn’t believe corporate owners would be dumb enough to save a few dollars by axing the heart of local weather coverage.
I was wrong. Bonus points to Allen Media Group for cutting local weather at KWWL on what’s literally the 30th anniversary of Mark Schnackenberg’s tenure as TV meteorologist.
I don’t really know anyone under 60 that watches the news anymore. People just pull up the weather in an app and get it more localized than a general synopsis of the viewing area. Anyone but a larger city has fully tuned out the “local news”. All stations for us in North Iowa come from Rochester MN now which is 2 1/2 hours away. Nothing local there.
I don’t think it’s that hard. If the Supt calls off school, and it ends up being not too bad, good news, no one was hurt or killed. However, if Supt does NOT call it off, and things are bad on the roads, and someone does get hurt or dies, then we’ve got lawsuits and injury or loss of life.
Always error on the side of caution.
Hey, I agree. I know several superintendents over the years and they ALL have said that their emails and phone messages are always full no matter what decision they make. Then come May, if they have to add a few days, they get hammered again about decisions during winter. There are a lot of parents that will complain about anything and they say it just keeps getting worse and worse.
How often does New Orleans get snow?
New Orleans and Houston getting snow and nothing in Des Moines. WTF.
Totally get it and I have never had a problem with the decision made because damned if you do damned if you don’t. I just thought the timing today was bad when nothing changed from the original decision and it put people in a bad spot. I am not a person who would ever/will give the super a hard time.
Snow is a totally different animal for cancelling school because you really have no idea when/what will happen.
I'll pull up the local news channel during severe weather (tornado warnings, etc). Other than that I just use the weather app on my phone
The older I get, the less TV I watch. We basically watch sporting events we can’t attend and occasionally a movie here and there. We have a bunch of subscriptions but most are used by our kids. No matter the age, you seem to always pay for stuff for them.
