My son worked at HyVee for about a week when he was in high school. His most dreaded job was collecting the carts from the parking lot. He hated it so much it was the main reason he quit.

I didn't mind the drive up. It was pretty chill and you could talk to random people.
The cans were gross for sure. And carts on a hot day wasn't fun at all.
I didn't mind the work but I would have rather been stocking. The worst part about the drive up is that you were completely forgotten out there and on a Saturday it was almost impossible to even get a bathroom break.
I never worked Hy Vee but I did work SunMart. Worst job IMO was cleaning the meatroom after all the meat guys left. Just gross, took an hour minimum, and it was like working in a sauna with all of the hosing down sh*t with hot water.
I went through this exercise a couple years ago on this thread, post #965, when it became a p***ing match on what store is cheaper. Back then HyVee was a couple dollars cheaper then Fareway, but WalMart killed both.
I thought it would be fun to do it again. Of course I didn't save all that work then, so I had to make a new list. 15 regular grocery items, but this time I compared both sale and regular prices as listed on online shopping for all stores in Ames.
Today, HyVee and Fareway are pretty much the same. And Walmart still kills them both. And I don't do Aldi because you can't get name brands and they aren't everywhere in Iowa.
This is impressive. And you must have way too much time on your hands.
About 30 minutes off and on to kill off the end of my work day.
For comparison's sake I just took my hyvee order from last friday and put the same stuff into my cart on walmart.com (or closest equivalent) (south ankeny hyvee and ankeny walmart).
Hyvee: 103.69
Walmart: 118.99
I worked for Fareway in HS as one of the cart pushers who loaded groceries in the cars/ buggies near one of the larger Amish Communities in the state- it was always entertaining to hear them complain about people in German then see their reaction when I responded in German before going back into the store.
The Amish at my Fareway get a ride. Was talking to one of their drivers when I was waiting for my online order and he said they pay him in eggs and goat cheese, which he prefers to cash.
Going to Fareway and Aldi more often. Not sure I'll go back to Hy-Vee.
Our Hy-Vee doesn’t have a meat counter any more and we do not need prepackaged old crap meat in units of four or six for two old people, so I am done with Hy-Vee.
It's hard to crown a true winner unless you compare prices consistently. My wife shops the cheapest between Hyvee, Walmart and Fareway.
I sorted bottles. Cans didnt have a deposit. You got your bottle credit checking out and taken your bill. Or we would give them a credit slip when they walked in the door. The bottle shack was my favorite place, sorting bottles no one bothered me, if I recall correctly it was pop bottles only becare they were reused, not recycled. Why dont they still do that? Also we carried out all groceries. The carts were not always needed. Each cart had a number on it. The bagged groceries were in the cart. The customer would pull up to the door and hold up their number, wew ould match the cart and take out their groceries. 1974 to 1978.
I got carts when working at Target. It was better than standing at the checkout lines. We had a system though. You'd take the first cart and put it up on the cart corral bar, hook it with the rope, have 8-12 carts together, push up on the last one and tie off your rope. The carts would stay together and you could swivel all of them at once.

The restaurants will implement a new menu that focuses on breakfast foods and burgers on Feb. 4. A new lunch and dinner menu will also launch in February.

I'll say it - we ate at the Market Grille a few times when we were in MN and I honestly liked it.
