Big 12 Regular Season Title or Elite 8?

If you could only have one, which would you choose?

The Poll cited on Iowa Everywhere Pods between Final Four and Big 12 Champs was widely considered a no-brainer.

I thought the better question would be between Elite 8 or Big 12 Regular Season Champs.

Feel free to explain, elaborate, or give qualifiers.

But if you knew today that ISU would win the conference but get bounced in the Sweet 16 or earlier again, would that be your preferred choice over an Elite 8 without the elusive regular season Conference Title?
 
I picked elite 8. It'd be great to get over the sweet 16 hump, and, our last regular season title was not enough of a consolation to make up for the first round loss in the tourney. NCAA Bball is about March Madness.

Elite 8, if not winning the regular season conference means 2nd place by 1 game (or tiebreaker) to Houston.
 
It would have to be a final 4 for me.

People remember final 4's. they don't remember who made the elite 8.

so for this example if its either regular season or an elite 8, give me the regular season title.

In that scenario, I think we would still be officially Big 12 champs, as Co-Big 12 Champ, correct?

I think the tiebreaker is just for Big 12 Tournament seeding, no? Although I'm sure Houston would try to claim they are the real champs and lord it over us, I'm pretty sure we'd still officially be recognized as Champs as well.

I could be wrong.

My thought was if they end up tied, the head to head winner would be the champ. Only play once, at UH.

Yeah, it's logical. But it'd still be fair to claim unbalanced schedule. I'm sure a segment of their fans would make the same argument if the shoe were on the other foot and our only game was at Hilton

I guess the potential benefit is it would be a much stronger argument for us if we win the only matchup at their place.

It's the main problem with bigger conferences, and it's not going away. So I guess we just have to adjust the mindset. I'd still be happy being Co-Big 12 Champs if it comes to that and we lose the tiebreaker for seeding. I'm pretty sure that's how it works. BUT, I'd probably want the elite 8 much more if that were to happen.

If the options are outright regular season Big 12 title and losing in the Sweet 16 or not winning a regular season title and losing in the Elite 8, I would strongly want the regular season title. Add to it, that if we win a regular season title we are pretty likely a 1 seed, which also gets remembered (and which game you lose on the second weekend doesn't really make a difference to that).

In this hypothetical is this elite 8 and then lose or elite 8 guarantee and then maybe a FF or NC?
 
If some of the best ISU teams had reached Elite 8 (or beyond) this century, I'd put Big 12 title above a regional final appearnce. But I want to get at least to final 8 with a "dangerous" team, for a change.

ISU will hang a banner at Hilton either way.
