***2026 Minnesota Vikings***

These giant QB contracts also have horrific dead caps tacked on to the end... Jordan Love, for example will cost GB $50M for three years beyond his contract length.

Another way to say this is you can make a roster competitive today with good but not great QB's, it just comes at the mercy of cancer to your roster mgmt planning when they leave the team...

There are only 2 current QB's in the NFL worth mega deals IMO (Allen/Mahomes)
No, most really don't. If they cut Love after 2026, his dead cap is a little over $31 million. His contract run for 2 years past that. There are some weird void years they throw on after 2028, but none of that is real. Love's is actually one of the more reasonable ones, but like most of them, the cap hit doesn't really spike until about year 4 or 5 at which point they will probably extend again if things are going well.

The single worst QB contracts right now are Deshaun Watson and Dak Prescott when you factor in every thing. Mahomes is about due for a massive rework of his whole contract and both Allen and Lamar will see rising cap hits in the next year necessitating it as well.

Wow - maybe the Lions really did revert Sam Darnold back to his NYJ version of himself.
In all fairness maybe the lions reset the defense also.

I think the gig maybe up on darnold. If you don’t have a top offensive line you are not going to win big games with him. He needs protection and can’t extend plays well.

Teams making him very uncomfortable

Lions got Anzalone back. People considered the Lions' D DOA when Hutchinson broke his leg, but they were actually treading water well enough (sans pass rush outside of blitzing), and it was when Anzalone went down that the Lions' D couldn't stop anyone. Hutch is the emotional leader of the defense, but Anzalone is the ship's captain - he was directing players pre-snap and was in on a majority of the stops.

I know the market says otherwise but 20-25 million for most these quarterbacks would leave you with a lot better team whether you spend it on linemen, receivers, defense whatever.
