CENTRAL IOWA CAR TIRES

These are the cadillac but if you have an odd wheel size they will be spendy.

My brother owns a tire shop and sells everything. He sold us these:

Love them. They look aggressive but are just as quiet as the pirrellis that came on the vehicle and they ride better. I can't speak to wear yet but we live on a fairly large hill and my wife used to drive 20 miles to work everyday so it wasn't my utmost priority.
Discount guy tried putting me into a set of Falken as well (Falken being owned by Sumitomo). Said they were the current leader of the next tier of tires after the Michelin price tier and that he personally bought some and liked them a lot. I still ended up going with Yokos at similar price, but gave the Falkens some thought.

I have Defenders too. Very happy with them going into their third winter. Much better than the crappy Bridgestone Alenzas that were on it when I bought it.
What'd you pay for you defenders? I think mine were like $215 per.

When I bought my truck it came with a set of Falken A/T3 (I think) on it, and to be blunt I will never purchase a set of Falken tires.

For some reason one axle pair started wearing funny and they made so much noise I thought I was riding in a knobby-tire Jeep every day.

They had great treadwear and general traction I guess, but I couldn't stand to drive them any longer and replaced them at least a year early.

On top of that the previous owner had put a slightly oversize tire on compared to stock. When I went down (slightly) to the OEM size (also cheaper to get standard sized tires) my mileage improved by at least 20%.

I had a wonderful experience getting tires through Fleet Farm after I couldn't find what I wanted through Sams.

There seems to be this thing where companies come into the market with a light truck tire, produce a really good product at an affordable price and then over time the price creeps up and the quality goes down. My brother is changing his "go to" about every 3 years.

I have Falkens on now because they were just so much cheaper than Duratracs, which I loved because I'm on gravel a fair amount and they didn't throw rocks. They were also awesome on hardpack and ice.

I got new Bridgestone tires back in 2022 for a suv and was notified that I should start lookin into getting new tires soon. I maybe put 12,000 miles a year on my vehicle and am looking to get tires that can last more than 20,000-30,000 miles. Any recommendations would be appreciated. TIA.

LOL this is nothing more than a sales tactic. If you throw ten vehicles up on an alignment rack nine of them will be out of spec. It takes next to nothing to throw the toe out.
I must have been the one out of the ten because they said I didn't need one

Seems like mine were closer to $300. It's been a few years. They are 265/50/20s, so maybe the size accounts for some of it.

Yeah mine were small. 18s I believe.

The only 18" Defenders I'm seeing on the Costco site are $265/per, ouch! With how little I drive I don't think I would get close to the 70k mileage warranty before they're just too old..

I highly recommend discount tire, they bought tire rack, so they have the same pricing structure. I just picked the tires online and setup the appt online. Didn't have to talk to a person until I got them installed. 4 techs did one tire each and I was out of there in less than 30 min, and it was less than $1500.

I do have a suspicion that the previous owners of my truck drove on a bit of gravel.

Having grown up on a gravel road, I know that one thing can drastically change your decision analysis.

Having 20" rims, at least a few years ago when I was looking, can absolutely skyrocket your price range.

They also really stepped up and negotiated their own cost down on a newish tire I bought from them that picked up a nail. It was my son's fault for driving on it and ruining the sidewall, but they found ways to knock the price to less than half what it should have been. Not sure if they all do that but the local store seems to really fight for repeat customers.

I had a similar experience at Discount Tire this summer. I had to buy tires in somewhat of a pinch in a city I wasn't particularly familiar with, so I had no shop relationship and I couldn't wait a week or be tremendously picky.

My local shop guy had cautioned me about using Discount Tire as, while they have plenty of help, he's had more than a few examples of buggered wheel studs thanks to their techs running down lugnuts cross-threaded.

However in this case, Discount Tire was my only real option to get tires with solid ratings at a reasonable price, relatively quickly.

The desk manager recommended some Firestone tires (more available) over Michelins (my preference). The Michelins I would have had to wait an extra day (pushing it) and were quite a bit more expensive, but he said their Firestone tires are just as good in his experience and what he'd use on his truck. Maybe a sales job.

Anyway I went that direction, he had to pull them from another shop but had them there the next day, I made an appointment and they had them off, replaced, balanced and installed in about 45 minutes. They also took "the best of my old tires" and replaced my spare tire as well, no extra charge.

I know they will also check and rebalance your tires in like 15 minutes while you wait with no appointment and no charge -- assuming there's a spot open.

So, I'd say customer service is pretty great, but I'd be careful to double-check your lug torques after the fact if you go with Discount Tire.

Did you think the Duras were loud on pavement?
Mine would always scream. Got BFKO2s and they are MASSIVELY better.
