ISU roster lists Tyler Miller as a 2020 season redshirt, so he's got another year? That would be something if he does, and he decides to use it.
They are effective for 2025, a lot of teams running off players to meet this number. I wonder if we’ll give a scholarship to all 105 or some will be walkons?
SEC is staying with 85 scholarships from what I saw. 20 remaining will be walkons.
The roster limit goes to 105 (not sure when exactly) and the scholarship limit increases to that. A school could still go 85 schollys and 20 walk ons if they want. When I was in school, Walden had 50some on scholarship near the end.
Wasn’t there also a change to add partial schollys with the new roster limit like FCS level? Say offer full 85 schollys but 20 half?
You can't reliably count on under classmen in the transfer era.. Older teams win more than younger teams unless the pups are blue chip recruits, which we have none..
Burkle, and Moore taking BIIIIIIIIG massive steps would be the only reason to do that, not just in the pass game but also in run game blocking to make me change my mind.. Not impossible, just hasn't been done in the CMC era for two players to jump that much in one off season

New Mexico is gonna be awful next year. I'll still go to a couple games though. Went to the season opener this year and Eli Sanders gave me a thumbs up when he saw my ISU shirt.

Burkle was really good after Brahmer got hurt. I was surprised at how well he played. Moore should take over Stevo's job. With Brahmer, Burkle, Moore and Alexander returning, I could see a couple other guys transferring out. Keller, and a couple of the walk-ons. Walsh might stick around because he got a good amount of playing time as a blocker in the backfield.
That play really bugged me. Freyler bailed on covering a receiver when it was 4th and 1 and he was 12 or more yards off the line of scrimmage. Even if you guess right and it is a run you aren't getting to the line before it is already decided if he is getting the first down. If Freyler covers the guy and knocks it down, ISU is taking the ball over with field position and momentum. Upper classman has got to do better.
I can't be mad at Freyler. He's our best linebacker.

That play kind of baffled me as well. I can get a linebacker selling out on the run, but when you are 10 yards away from the ball what do you think you're going to help on a halfback dive?

That was my feeling too, though as much trouble as the front six had at stopping the run at that time, it's hard to blame the guy for getting jumpy back there.
It sucks we are losing 2 DL that would have helped us next year (jones and Snyder)
I know there was talk of ISU playing more 4 man line during last offseason. But don't recall if that came from coaching staff or just media conjecture.
But Heacock could have also been parsing words. There is a difference in playing a front 4 of: Onyedim, Singleton, Orange and Petersen vs. a front 4 of: Onyedim, Singleton, Petersen and Ellis or McLaughlin (LBs).
I really don't think the 3 man front is an issue. But teams ran wide very successfully against our defense this year. The Cincinnati HC Satterfield even commented in his post game interview that our D-lineman are pinched very tight (guard to guard) more than other 3-3-5 teams.
Does it make sense for our defense to be a blend of a 3/4 front on run downs and a 3/3 on pass downs? I think guys like Freyler or Verdon could have easily walked into the box and been effective. I see the same physicality out of Patton, James & Neal next year.

Right. Which is why our path is to development them from pups into dogs, or just give up.
Well, let's see what the the portal and the spring brings. We're going to have what we have, who we can get and who we can develop. Is there another way for Iowa State?
