***OFFICIAL CFP Rankings Show Watch Thread***

Well that’s the way it works? Do you think teams should get credit for beating a team just because they were ranked at some point?

I guess this could work once the cfb playoff rankings are out, might make a little sense then and would fix some of the preseason ranking issues.
They should count when the game is played as always. Teams change over the course of the year. If you can drop a team like Florida State because their QBs were injured, then you can count how good they were before then.

As always? That’s not the way it works though. A team doesn’t get to count beating a FSU team that was wrongly ranked as a ranked win this season just because they were at the time.

When Kansas beat BYU they said that was the first time a team with a losing record beat two ranked teams in a row and they did it a 3rd game in a row too. But we weren’t ranked that week anymore, so how does that count as a ranked win then?

Ranked wins are ranked wins. Just because a team fell off doesn’t mean they weren’t a good team at the time of the game.

Thats why I do my computer model on ranking at the time of the game with a little of current ranking to help normalize it a bit.

I’m not even going to worry about Boise anymore. I’m much more worried about Tulane. It’s unfathomable to me they are even being discussed as supplanting a B12 champion.

2 losses including head to head against Kansas State, and their best win is Navy. Hoping Memphis can do us a solid tomorrow. Watch, then Memphis will jump all the B12 teams.
Memphis cannot win the AAC, so it wouldn't matter unless they took an at-large spot. So, Go Memphis Tigers! Roar, Tigers, Roar!

It's all a biased sham. Go look at the Big 12 resumes overall and tell me our conference sucks compared to others.

The only thing the Big 12 lacks is a dominant team or two. But the Big 12 has no bottom feeder. OSU "sucks" yet beat Arkansas. Houston "sucks" but barely lost to OU. Utah "sucks" but has played nearly everyone close even after relegating to their 3rd/4th string QB. And the top Big 12 teams have wins vs. SEC/Big 10/ACC teams.

But I'm preaching to the choir here.

Whoever reps the Big Xii in the CFP needs 100% support from the other 15 teams. I have no issue rooting for Ariz. State, BYU or Colorado @ Oreogn or Ohio State if ISU does nto win the Big XII. Also, the other Bowl teams (especially the upper tier ranked teams) need to show up and take care of businees in the Bowl Games. Let's start there!

Big 12 champs isn't getting left out, stop the crying. If ISU wins the big 12, they"d beat #24 K State and a top 15 ASU team. ASU wins the title, they are already ahead of Tulane.

Its not “crying” to point out how absurd it is that 2 loss Tulane has been in front of our 2 loss teams.

It’s proof someone is rational and the committee are idiots.

They’re a good team but their schedule is too weak to ever be ranked above big 12 teams with same record. They’re 0-2 vs P4.

The problem we are seeing is the perception problem. We don’t have name brands that the media likes to talk up. Even though Miami appears to be a paper tiger, they’re a name brand that the media likes to talk about. The Big12 doesn't have that anymore after Texas and OU left. The Big12 needs 2-3 teams to be the brand in the conference that can go up against the Georgias and Ohio states if the game, and right now we don’t.

Agreed but last 3 games they have outscored their opponents by 112 points. These members aren't watching full Tulane games or any at all, the box score looks great.

And are knock is, who is our best win? 7-4 iowa or Baylor?

First off our*.

Second they beat Navy, Temple, Charlotte, and rice. Those are week 2 and 3 games for majority of P4 teams.

We beat our G5 opponents 73-10. What’s your point?

The Big 12 needs to change to playing only 8 conference games. The committee has shown a teams SOS doesn't matter. The ACC & SEC are doing it and it props up those leagues. This Big 12 is just making it more difficult for itself.
Does our media contract have anything to do with the 9 conf games? If so, it’s not changing.

Yep. Plus these rankings are supposed to be total bodies of work. I have no idea how you can have Tulane ahead of all Big 12 teams when they lost at home to the 6th place Big 12 team (along with the 13th place team in the SEC). Makes zero sense…

Schedules of 9-2 teams ranked 17 and below (P4 teams in bold, even giving Oregon State the benefit of the doubt):

Tulane:

SE Louisiana - W
Kansas State - L
Oklahoma - L
Louisiana - W
South Florida - W
UAB - W
Rice - W
North Texas - W
Charlotte - W
Temple - W
Navy - W
Temple

Iowa State:

North Dakota - W
Iowa - W
Arkansas State - W
Houston - W
Baylor - W
West Virginia - W
UCF - W
Texas Tech - L
Kansas - L
Cincinnati - W
Utah - W
Kansas State

BYU:

Southern Illinois - W
SMU - W
Wyoming - W
Kansas State - W
Baylor - W
Arizona - W
Oklahoma State - W
UCF - W
Utah - W
Kansas - L
Arizona State - L
Houston

UNLV:

Houston - W
Utah Tech - W
Kansas - W
Fresno State - W
Syracuse - L
Utah State - W
Oregon State - W
Boise State - L
Hawaii - W
San Diego State - W
San Jose State - W
Nevada

Literally the only advantage Tulane has is that their losses came early while Iowa State’s and BYU’s came late. By every other measure, there’s just no justification to put Tulane above them, and even UNLV has an argument (having beaten Kansas, at least).

Ummm the way it has literally always worked - in both college football and basketball - is IF you beat a team that is RANKED the day you play them, then yes, it is counted as a ranked win. We beat #20 Iowa in Kinnick earlier this year. Yeah, that was (and still is) a ranked (and great) win, for ISU and the Big 12.

Yes, they do.

Just like in basketball 2 years ago when we beat UNC when they were ranked #1.

It was widely used in our resume come selection Sunday as a ranked win, even though UNC turned out to not even be a tourney team.

They were discussing this on Big 12 radio and claimed basketball does it one way and football the opposite way. Claimed football is based on the final ranking which is yet to come.
