*** Official #4 Auburn vs #5 IOWA STATE Game(Day) Thread ***

The slow reaction and even slower recovery from Jefferson on the back cut switch was a huge breakdown.

Yes he was gassed, but he has to be more aggressive to deny the pass.

yeah, i get all the 'we only lost by 2 to a top 5 team' takes, but the story here is really two. A half where we could beat any team in the country, and a half where we'd be seeing an early exit from the NCAA tournament. Getting outscored 50-32 in the second half is pretty disastrous by any measure. People were rightly elated by the first half performance, but should be equally down on the second half performance.
Yeah it really is pretty nuts how no lead feels safe with a TJ team

Blowing an 18 point lead is very very bad. I don't really care that it's vs a F4 quality team to be honest. Showed some things but that second half is hard to swallow while also trying to talk about how good this team is
ISU can go up 18 points, and Auburn can make up 18 points? Apparently both teams had streaks.

The spread was like 2.5, they hit some horse like shots, and made up the difference.

It hurt not being conditioned for a full 40 min against a top 5 team. It’s quite a bit different when you go from 40 point beat downs against SWAC teams to all the sudden a top 5 team who might even be the best in the country right now. Auburn had the advantage of playing Houston already,

Lipsey definitely looks hurt, was grimacing when he shot those free throws that barely grazed the rim. And almost air balled a 3.

I do wonder. If Watson could maybe be a guy that could handle a stretch 4 like that for maybe a few minutes. Gosh we just got no answer for those guys. Most teams don't, but we really struggle with those guys. Will see I guess.
Yea, I could see him being useful against a long athletic team like Auburn.

Yeah. I just dont get all the talk about "ah we only lost by 2, this team showed they belonged in the top 5"

Did you not watch them blow that? This team clearly has sky high potential, but there's a lot of glaring issues on display as well

You are correct there are issues, but we ALSO showed we belong. Both can be true.

Not gonna lie, was optimistic we would win with the big halftime lead. Knew Auburn was the type of team that could erase a lead in a hurry though.

That a bigger issue here. I don’t think there’s any doubt his shoulder is bothering him. For his prior shooting word he’s always been a good ft shooter and those two weren’t even close

Now our best hope is for UNC to lose so that we have a chance to play UNC and possibly UConn.
Screw that. I’m ok with the potential for one good win in this tournament. We will have plenty of chances to pick up good wins in the B12.

Also what the **** was that 4-point play where the guy OBVIOUSLY traveled before taking the three and then twisted his body sideways after the shot pretending Gilbert fouled him?

4 points in their favor that should have never been. These refs were terrible at calling travels all night. Tons of obvious ones that went uncalled. Our fans were way better at pointing them out.

That’s too bad. Feel for him. Offseason surgery, tons offseason rest and therapy… can the guy not catch a break!?

So was looking at minutes 36 for Jefferson and 21 for Dishon..
I thought Dishon given he was going up against one of the best Bigs in college basketball played well. Drew a lot of fouls.

Not sure why he didn't get another 4 or 5 minutes, and spell Jefferson more.

Lipsey had 32 minutes tonight.

Well this tournament is about establishing rotations.
Hoping Nojus gets a few more minutes, certainly a big step up for him today but I think he can be a contributor in Big 12 play.

Forgot about Watson. Obviously Heise must be doing ok in practice, because on the court I’d definitely take what we saw from Watson towards the end of last year versus what we have seen from Heise so far.

Heise has not shown me anything yet. Watson is a better defender and if Heise is better on offense he sure has **** hasn’t shown much. Might be this years version Jackson P from last year. Great mid major but the move up wasn’t it for him

Both are absolutely true. We're freaking out about giving up an 18 point lead, but shouldn't Auburn be freaking out they got in an 18 point hole? The fact is they look like a really good team and we played well enough to beat them. Runs happen in basketball when good offenses are involved and Auburn has one of the best offenses.
