Football Attendance Against Cincinnati

All good reasons mentioned to stay home. I had to go, just couldn’t resist the pleasure of having my brain subjected to constant high decibel rap music. It’s really wonderful. I’m still waiting for Jaime to post the lyrics to this culturally significant music so I can sing along.

A lot of ISU fans traveled to Kansas City last weekend too. I'm sure that is a lot for some people to do back to back weekend games like that.

I fear this will be the norm across the board in college football...once a team is out of contention for their CCG, many fanbases will feel their season is over.
Agree. That is the unfortunate impact of the TV talking heads focused on the CFP from game 1.

Part of the selling point of the CFP was more opportunity for schools to make the playoff. And that is true with 12 spots. But historically, only 4 teams made the playoff. So for most fanbases the CFP was an after thought and the focus for their team was on CCG, being bowl eligible or beating rivals. Not hearing as much bowl eligible talk these days.

For football going forward the goal for many of these coaches will be getting your team into the playoff, just like it is in BB with the tournament. Coaches at most schools will be judged on how many times they accomplished that task.

All of the Above!

I don't feel guilty for not going though, as I went to plenty of the crappy games in the Walden Era. Enough for a lifetime. Sheesh, I saw Iowa State lose to UNI (14-28), @ Iowa (9-37), Western Michigan (19-23) and Rice (18-28) in the same month for goodness sakes (September 1994). Bonus points, I also saw ISU lose their three conference home games to Kansas (23-41), Mizzou (20-34) and Nebraska (12-28) that season. So, unless somebody sat through that crap like I did in 1994, I don't want to hear it.

FWIW, I'm 3-0 this year (Ark. State, Baylor and UCF).

Let's Go State!

I went to the Texas Tech game, and if I'm being perfectly honest I probably got my in-person fill for a few years out of that. It's just a lot of ******* work to go to a game, and it's even more work when its at 7 PM. Between the time and money commitment to go, it's just become really, really easy to stay home.

Add into it the fact we were largely out of the CFP at that point, it's just hard to get too fired up. Fighting to play in the Alamo Bowl instead of the Pop Tart bowl isn't the most intriguing thing in the world. It's just going to be a problem with CFB going forward.

idk you look at Florida's crowd against LSU though and they were energized to the max and they're a middling SEC team....I get the SEC has bigger brands but Florida fans could've cashed in a while ago and they're still packing the Swamp....the one advantage they have late in the season though is the weather is a lot more favorable than ours.....there's a reason the Big Ten has a majority of its games in November during the daylight.

I was fine at our game but I imagine a lot of people wanted an afternoon game with some of it being played in the daylight/sunshine.

I for the life of me cannot understand how anyone is having fun listening to rap music being played between each play.

The one thing I was happy about at the Kansas game was that our band actually got to play between plays. Our own PA guys don't even let them play "For I For S" after successful PAT's anymore.

I wish people would stop trying to make CFB the NFL.

I had to miss the UCF and Texas Tech games, and apparently during one of those games we turned the PA announcer into the 3rd down "get loud" guy? Are they trying something new instead of using the video boards with clips of the players for that?

I felt bad for the guy, because while it's one thing to show enthusiasm for the home team, I doubt that is what he signed on for.

High cost of tickets? You could get into the game for $10 Saturday. It’s night game fatigue, especially in November. It would have been full in September.
I think what they are referring to the cost listed at the beginning of the season, lot of people look once and forget it

But you are 100% correct there were a lot of people offering great pricing on here that wanted butts in the seats instead of empty seats.

Is there any way to get people to put their tickets somewhere free for people to use? I hate to see them go to waste. Maybe I'm just not doing it right.
List them in tkt exchange under For Sale works best.

That’s like saying you aren’t a fan if you didn’t want to drive to Ames and pay $20 to see the cyclones play against Mississippi Valley State. People are obviously going to be more amped up to fill the bigger games, like Marquette in just 3 week.
No. It’s like saying we would have 10,500 fans in Hilton on a Saturday game against Utah in late February when we are a game back of 1st place.

That would be 73% capacity for Hilton. Do you think Jack Trice was 73% full on Saturday? Didn’t look anywhere close to that empty.

Living 2 hours away, parking lot gridlock after the game gives me PTSD. If I didn't have season tickets, I would not have even considered going.

Genuinely curious what is so much work?

For me for example - I leave my house 1.5 hours before the game (45 minute drive then 15 minute walk), get in the stadium 30 minutes before kick off, watch game, drive home while listening to the call in show. Then once back at home listen to the remaining reaction show.

I don't park in the lots so I get in and out pretty quick.

My approach is pretty simple.

???????? The attendance for this game was 52k. Did ISU ever have 52k fans at a game in the Big 8 days?
Yes. The Nebraska game at JTS. TBF though, it was 50% Nebraska fans.

I know the weather was a little iffy, but this is one of better weather home slates we have had for some time. I was fine in shirt sleeves until the sun started to set.

You think the crowd for this game was underwhelming, wait until the KState game with minimal students due to the holiday. That game is shaping up to be something with meaning too.

Blum made a good point on the pod with Williams. The players and coaches still get up and go to practice at 5am. It's not over for them and that showed on Saturday. This team still has everything to play for. Themselves, their coaches, and yes, the fans. They are still in the running for a championship game. Far from out of it. I know it's the way it is for some fans, but to pack it in and call it quits after the only 2 losses of the season is no bueno.
