Iowa dual 2024

Pretty close to what I would have, but I think I am more confident in 184 with Bockman over whoever Iowa puts out there than Carroll over Buchanan at this point. I also am more confident in Frost and Ech over Ayala and Parco than our 125 (Diversent, Grice, or Meza). By March, that will likely change, but Diversent will still be getting used to folkstyle, managing his weight, and then wrestling in Carver for the first time on top of that will be a challenge.
Good point on Bockman. I was thinking Nelson at 184, but it sounds like it’s Nelson at 74. If that’s the case I would move Bockman up over Carroll. That would be a 1 td match with him and Arnold.

25 I just have high because it’s by far Iowa’s weakest weight.

I think Kale will surprise a lot of people this year if he manages 125 well. This is a kid with a win over Nasir Bailey, in freestyle, last year along with a lot of other quality matches at 61kg. He very well can and should be r12 at worst or on the podium. Dont be surprised to see him top 6

A buddy of mine was at Iowa's open practice last Saturday, and he said Ayala beat up on Peterson the whole time. It was totally one sided. Diversent wins this match
I wouldn’t look into that too much. An NCAA finalist bumping up and having energy and strength wrestling in practice against a freshman making his cut down to wrestle this weekend at 125 for the first time. Time will tell but that’s my prediction

very interested to see how Ayala preforms at a much more comfortable weight, 125 was brutal cut last year and as you pointed out NCAA finalist

I do think Kale will be solid, but he is still the weakest link in the Iowa lineup. And R12 is an extremely generous position for him, I will be extremely surprised if he AAs.

Last year he was teched by zero time AA Teske and pinned by the 66th ranked recruit from 2023 (Ben Bast) who is apparently wrestling at a JUCO.

Nice thread....Can Carroll get down to 74? Heard he put on some good muscle over the summer. But IDK...

I could be completely wrong, just going by what I’ve seen and know. He’s battled injuries for what it’s worth and if he can stay healthy and manage his weight he will be dangerous

I just hope he goes upper body with Diversent :)

This doesn’t sound good.. why? We have to eventually beat them
We have a lot of moving parts and guys cutting weight. Not sure they’ll be down to weight by then. Our lineup for that dual will look different than what we send to nationals I think.

We just beat them in March!

We do have a lot of guys with big weight cuts, that’s been the concern by most avid fans. It’ll be disappointing not having guys at this dual because of weight management. As cool as it is beating them at Nationals, I don’t think hardly any “normal Cyclone” fans know that. The typical Cyclone or wrestling fan knows we keep losing the dual meet, though.

Anyone who has listened to coaches talk recently - every single one of them knows the importance of dual meets for the future and survival of this sport. Packing home venues/arenas with local fans and giving them a show brings dollars to the university, and that’s what they want. Every coach I’ve listened to wants to sell more home dual meet tickets and put out a great product to get a fanbase that supports and donates money. Nationals is the “peak”, but dual meets are what matter more right now for the sport. For example, hardly anyone goes to watch CKLV and that’s one of the greatest events a wrestling fan could ask for with top level competition. And no one remembers who places top 3 or 4 every year there.
