Michigan and ISU probably have some parallels with which we can draw some comparisons.
I don't think ASU is very good up front defensively. They couldn't hold up to Michigan who has just an average OL right now. With that, they have some LBs who play very aggressively in the run game. Now, Michigan is probably a little more run-centric than ISU needs to be but we've all seen how hard we will try to establish the run even if it isn't working well. I think this will be a good test for what seems to be a much improved OL because I think they will have a lot of bodies flying at them. I think we're gonna see how organized they are. Tough to tell on their secondary since Michigans perimeter players aren't as good as ISU's but UM had a lot of success with the TEs. Warren at one point was 11/13 with 2 INTs so there will be plays to be made. Brahmer isn't Loveland but he's much closer to that than he is someone the same coverages could stop. I would guess we're going to have to throw them out of loaded boxes and heavy downhill LB play. I look for some big plays early in PA taking advantage of those LBs. Then I just don't think their front can hold up so we should control the ball pretty well.
Defensively I'm not near as confident. I don't know what they will do at QB but both seem to have ability and they don't seem scared to throw it around a little. They seemed to like the screen game a little and they aren't afraid of throwing down the field. It's hard to judge their running game because UM has one of the best front 5s in the country and they can largely control the run themselves. ISU can't do that because of obvious numbers issues so I do think the LBs will have to be better here in all facets. Having said that the interior of our DL, I think, is our best spot so if they are given just a little support, I don't see that straight ahead run game going all that well for them. I'm more concerned about some of the horizontal stuff and making that second level use discipline and execute.
I actually like the over here.
