Realignment Megathread (All The Moves)

Saw an article that said Wash St and Ore St are hoping for $11 million per year in TV revenue out of the reincarnated pac 12. I kind of wish that the Big 12 had added them at a reduced share for that amount, which would have dealt a final death blow to the pac.

You don't need to deal a death blow to something that is already dead. The Pac 12 as a power conference and any kind of threat to the new Big 12 is very much dead. WSU and OSU keeping the Pac brand and forming up a slightly enhanced version of the MWC doesn't change a thing.

Maybe I missed something, but why would UNLV not be joining this new Pac-12?
The way I have read, is more from the Mt West may be invited/join, just sounded like they had only worked with the first 4, at least to this point.

More of those schools continue in talks, as well as others, they just havent gotten to that point with some, but wanted to make the announcement with what they had.

Is it possible UNLV was left out intentionally to see who steps up in negotiations? Like FedEx trying to get Memphis in the Big 12? A business like Ceasars or MGM could offer a lot to the conference with advertising and their properties.

Apparently there are some political hurdles to separating UNLV and Nevada-Reno that they are going to have to work through. UNLV is a lock just not immediately.
Yes, I read that too. Basically they have the same BoR, and like all the schools like that, they will try to force both go together. We know those are not the end all in most of these, but they do add another hurdle that can slow those moves down a bit.

My guess is UNLV is a lock but Nevada may not be, and they are working through things to decide if they want both or not and how it will work out in the end.

Typically the BoR lets them go. Cal fought it and ended up getting some money from UCLA, but UCLA still got to go. I also think their BoR was a little bitter because UCLA didn’t run it by them first.

I think in your scenario, the ACC would still be in a power position vs the PAC. It's more likely the acc raided this new PAC and the American to stay afloat.

Even if they lose 7 or 8 schools, the ACC would still have 9 or 10 schools that are as big a brand as anyone in the new PAC. Acc would likely grab Memphis, maybe USF or Tulane and whoever they wanted from the PAC to group with their West Coast teams.

Very possible but like many things, it depends on how many schools leave and what the networks want.

I think it's possible (though unlikely) that something like this happens:
*B1G adds Virginia, UNC, Notre Dame, Miami
*SEC adds Florida State, Clemson, Virginia Tech, NC State
*Big 12 adds Pitt, Louisville, Duke, Syracuse

You are left with BC, Wake, Georgia Tech, plus SMU/Cal/Stanford in a "league" that might not have any TV deal. All six of those, but at least the last three or four, could be Pac-12 options and the ACC ends up with BC and Wake in the Wazzu/Oregon State position alone and looking for some G5s to team up with.

The PAC getting a media deal and GoR signed before the ACC collapse could hinder the ACC’s ability to poach schools that the PAC could add first as well. Even if the ACC has more leftovers.

It would be disappointment if at the end of all of this the Big 12 got Pitt, Louisville, Duke, and Syracuse, imo.

From what it has sounded like the B1G has had its eyes set on UVA and UNC for a while now. They'd probably have their pick between B1G and SEC and it's anyone's guess which way they'd lean. I'm sure there'd be a lot of pressure on the academic side to join the B1G and the money would probably be a little better, but geographically and competitively getting to play against those elite southeastern brands would be a serious draw.

Basketball baby.

But i think it wont be quite that, because in the example B1G was taking 4 and SEC taking 4. But i dont see BiG taking 4 to have 22 teams. Just 2.

If P2 takes 6, the question is does Big12 take 8? UConn is out there still. GT. UNLV. Memphis. Who knows.
