***BYE & Arkansas State weekly discussion thread***

While the Big 12 pundits are conceding our win in Iowa City was a good win, they're questioning whether our offense is good enough for ISU to be one of the top tier Big 12 teams. This is based on the fact that we've only scored a total of 41 points in the first 2 games.

I don't agree with this assessment, but that's what they are saying.
I would actually agree with this statement if we are talking about being a contender to make the B12 title game. The offense has been shaky for 6 of 8 quarters so far. They have shown the potential, but not yet the consistency.

Now as far as just being in the top tier, I think we could still get to that level with strong defense and a favorable schedule even if the offense remains inconsistent.

Bye weeks always suck from a fan's perspective, but it will be a lot more tolerable since we got the dub. And the team desperately needs it.

Late on Saturday night I was too wired to go to bed, so I scanned youtube for videos to watch and stumbled from some kind of Iowa reaction podcast. They were fairly level headed with the loss. At the very end, the host mentioned that Iowa had a bunch of in state recruits at the game, and that most are being recruited by Iowa State as well. They worried that seeing Iowa State's grit and culture up close would work in our favor.

Maybe Campbell will use the bye week to hit the recruiting trail and leverage the mo

I’m not sure where you saw the level-headed Iowa fans after the loss. Most of what I saw was Iowa fans absolutely melting down after the loss.

1 - Get more healthy
2 - No one be stupid and get arrested with 2 weeks until the next game
3 - CMC HAS TO FIGURE IT OUT.. this offense needs to start throwing more on first down... Get those safeties out of the box and double covering Higgins and Noel, then start to run the ball down hill
4 - The weakness all along in a 3-3-5 is running off-tackle, it puts SOOO much stress on the edge and puts our bad/inexperienced LB's in impossible situations.. The noise about a 4 down front is smoke and mirrors thru the first two, maybe it's time to sprinkle it in on running down?
5 - Our best d-line front has Orange and Singleton playing together.. We need more of that front

I'm expecting a VERY ugly game against Ark St, with a lot of fans frustrated we don't beat-down this inferior team.. CMC has proven time and time again that he gets ultra conservative "showing things" to lesser opponents.

We now control our own destiny. 10-2 likely gets you to Dallas in December as I don't see a dominant team in the conference through 2 weeks. WVU, K-state, OSU, UCF, TCU, and Kansas are all a step or two below where I thought. Utah no has 3-4 weeks without Rising, this thing is WIDE OPEN

Does anyone remember what happened the last time ISU played a Sun Belt team?

I am always impressed with the people who think they know more than CMC and Jon Heacock do. There was one genius on the post game call in show that tried to show how clever he was by listing all that the team was doing wrong.

Oh yes. Not positively impressed, but impressed nonetheless.

Especially in the wake of a great win.

FWIW, per cfbstats.com, Iowa State has thrown 25 times on first down this season and has run 27 times (passing stats, running stats). Up to you if you still think that isn't enough, but I'm guessing that's closer than you (or most fans) would have guessed.

It may be early, but it's the perfect time for a bye week.
  1. Heal physically
  2. Come back down to earth mentally

Doesn't really matter what anyone says. We could win every game from here on out 3-0 and so long as we win the Big12 title... we'd still make the playoff. But I think I'll focus more on beating AK State

Well, we have done it almost every year, including two top 10 teams. At Iowa (#21) in 2024, at K St (#18) in 2023, at Ok St (#8) in 2021, at Texas (#17) in 2020, at Ok St (#25) in 2018, at Ok (#3) in 2017.
Thank you. This is good info, I was referring to so far this season. If you look at wins I feel we have one of the better ones out there currently.

Did they say their name was Zac R. F.?
