This has been rumored for a while, but as a Minnesota pro sports fan, this is life changing. Give to me now!
Would this mean we could get it in Iowa? Please please please.

Local seems to be the key word.

Crucially, fans with the Amazon Prime service would no longer need a cable subscription to watch local games.

I have Bally right now that costs $20 to watch royals games. That includes the twolves and thunder nba games but I don't watch those.
If prime takes over, it basically just means I still pay $20 but now it's to Amazon. That's really no change IMO.....

There are a lot of folks who don't have that $20 option to watch the games with Bally. That only applies if you have cable/satellite service that includes Bally, I believe. Not a big change for you (and you can probably keep paying whoever you pay not), but could be huge for a large group of us.

The Ballys+ service is a standalone subscription app, just like Netflix or whatever. $20 a month and it gives you access to all the Ballys owned local sports networks. It is not tied to cable service.

If this was to be included as part of a Prime subscription that would be something valuable to me. If it just let's me pay my $20 per month via Amazon instead of directly to Bally, then oh my god who the hell cares?

Right now I have the Bally App and it based on your home zip code.
We all know how restrictive MLB is with blackouts so I don't see how Amazon will get around that unless that is part of the deal.

But Bally is tied to your zip code. I can't watch every Bally game in Omaha. Only royals, twolves, and thunder.

False.

The Twins for example, are not available on Bally+ without having them on cable/sat.

Also, I had Bally+ for Wild and Wolves and it is a TERRIBLE service.

That's all fine and dandy but what about blackout rules.

Because the way things are going I am just going to assume that none of this will be included in your Prime subscription, it will be another $20 add on to that for something like "Amazon Sports". Rather than $175/month for cable we now have $20/month times ten as everything gets divided up into a dozen streaming packages.

It literally says that's what it will be in the article.

People still think this is the reason for blackouts?
Well, yeah, it’s mainly to protect the RSNs (although I don’t get that, people are willing to pay to stream blacked-out games, but MLB says suck it, losers in Iowa) … but protecting attendance was the original reason for blackouts. And like I said, what’s the point now, if you can’t even access your team’s stream even if you were willing to pay (as I understand it, the Brewers’ RSN isn’t even available in Iowa)? Why doesn’t your MLB.TV subscription money also go to that RSN whose ads you are watching?
