***Official 2024 Weather Thread***

It did in Twin Cities. Second one at 530 am knocked out my power. Crossing fingers it gets retored today. Don't need to be tossing out another bunch of food...sort of an annual thing these days.
In-Laws live up in NW Wisconsin (about an hour north of the cities, half hour into Wisco), said they got 2" of rain and some nasty winds. One of the golf courses I play regularly when up there is closed for the day for clean-up and I saw the MN State Fair had to delay their opening today.

Torrential downpour and lot-o-thunder but well short of "You're All Going to Die" wind.

And no hail :)
My brother said there was a little bit of hail in St Paul. None for me in NE Minneapolis.

Super heavy rain...there was a river running down my street and also very windy. My 10 ft tall sunflowers are no longer standing up straight :( the rest of the garden looks fine though. I was worried everything would get shredded.

mini gen dedicated to the fridge/freezer.

This would be my first option. Another possibility would be to buy a small chest freezer, use it as intended, and fill it the Night rest of the way up with ice cream buckets of water to make large cubes. When the power goes out, ice can go in the fridge or fridge items into the chest freezer to get by short term. Running cost is relatively low if the freezer is kept full

It's been over a year since it's been 100 in Des Moines. Does anyone else feel like we used to get a lot more 100 degree days?

I went and looked. I'm probably remebering being in high school in the 80's, when we didn't have air and your skin stuck to the chair.

Seems like most years we get a handful. None this year in Des Moines? Must have been close a few times.

Anymore we’re taught to believe 90 degrees is unprecedented heat.

Feels like 100 is a pretty high bar for Des Moines. I remember lots of 98-99 back in the 80’s and 90’s but 100 still seemed rare. Advances in how they dictate heat and cold have made the actual temp obsolete on extreme days.

Amazingly, only 4 times in the last decade.

1936.....30.
1934.....31.

My god, I cant imagine. Although the average person probably weighed 140lbs, which helps a little.

I remember 2012 having a bunch, but that summer was much more bearable being so dry
