***Official 2024 Chicago Cubs Thread***

With Assad hopefully back on track i look at the Hendricks and Taillon starts as the won to win and you have a chance at a sweep. Mission accomplished.

Shaw is on a tear. Do you dare trade Hoerner this winter but resign Bote for a year as insurance?
Random thought I had since I just can’t help but think Jed will go after Alonso this offseason.

Nabbing Alonso opens the door for Triantos AND Hoerner to be moved, Busch to regular 2B, and Shaw to UTL IF.

Braves win in extra innings. They seem to have got their stuff back together here of late.

Alonso would be the wrong place to spend the money. I see him as a big lead anchor on the offense as soon as he gets a big contract. Get the 3rd ace, have Brown, Horton, Assad and Wicks fill out the rotation. Resign Lopez. Bring up Shaw and Triantos battle for 2nd.

If we sign one big free agent this offseason make it a righty starter or self off some prospect capital and trade for one. This would be.my preference. I think the offense is coming up the pipeline.

So they are 10 games over .500 after 128 games, but should easily go 8 over in their next 34?
Only way to get back in it is to post a big run. 4 teams to pass but we've basically caught SF and StL so it's about the Mets currently 5 over and the Braves 10 over. If they can pull off a 10-2 run suddenly we're in the race.

Yep. Gotta go on a run that we haven’t shown the ability to do. Certainly have the schedule for it, so we’ll see. Might need to get close to 90 wins, I just refuse to believe Atlanta should easily get there either.

Yeah good point. I guess my point is I thought 85 wins could do it for the Cubs, but the Braves should be able to exceed 85, and could possibly get closer to 90.
Braves are on pace to win 88 games, to get to 89 we need to go 24-8 the rest of the way. Need a win streak or two to make that plausible.
