What's the worst advice you ever got or maybe pearl of "wisdom" from some rando that you took to heart? I'll go first.
I heard once, I don't know whether it was on the radio or where I heard it, that a sign of maturity is that you can do things by yourself and still have fun. For some reason, that stuck with me. So I started doing things, going places on my own. And while it is true that you can have fun on your own, I'd hardly call it a sign of maturity and the end result is that once you start doing it, it becomes habit, and before you know it, you find out you have no friends, or very few friends. My best friend is a high school buddy who lives 500 miles away from me, my second best friend, I text with and go out to an occasional meal with. My third best friend is a former boss who is dead now. And that's what I have for friends. There are other people in my life, but they are what I would call acquaintances, not friends, certainly not anyone I could call up and say let's go to a movie. No, I'm not lonely. I have children and grandchildren who live near me. But I often think about that advice or thought on maturity I heard way back when and say to myself, "what BS."
