Audi will be the celebrity show person for the Hereford steer in the Governor's Celebrity Steer Show at the Iowa State Fair

16. Sponsor: Iowa Junior Hereford Association

Celebrity: Audi Crooks, All Big 12 Center for Iowa State University Women's Basketball

Exhibitor: Lainey Harre | Gilman, IA

Steer: Hilton Storm

It's a great cause, the show raises a lot of money for the Ronald McDonald House. What is even more impressive is that the steer she is showing is sponsored by the junior association for the Hereford breed where most of the steers in the show have a corporate or big organization as the sponsor. The juniors for the Herefords have done a lot of work fundraising themselves where some of these other steers the bulk of the fundraising has come from the corporation or organization that sponsored and their connections. Just another example too of what a great representative of ISU Audi is as I would think like other celebrities that sometimes show in this show that didn't grow up with an ag background that this probably is a bit out of her comfort zone showing a steer.

Is this the same thing that C-Dubs was in a few years ago?

For those that don’t know Hereford are predominantly red with a white face. Calf could look good with a gold halter?

these exhibitor names are hilarious. people just name your kid something normal.

Yeah a few of those belong on r/tragedeigh.

Gen X and elder millennials cannot resist adding -leigh and -lynn to the end of their kids names.
I completely acknowledge some people go overboard trying to be different, but Baylen was the only one I hadn't seen before. The rest were pretty typical names I'd been seeing for awhile.

I'm all for different names. I had 30 kids in my HS class and there were 3 Brians, 2 Matthews, and 2 Amys. And I knew a billion Jens/Jennifers/Jennys in college. My daughter had so many Madison/Maddy, Addison/Addy, and Kaitlynns as classmates it was crazy. I think I saw Kaitlynn spelled abut 8 different way. I also see a lot of Coopers, Noahs, Abigayles, Tylers, and Calebs,

But really, most names are cyclical in their usage. They get broken down into a few categories:
1) biblical names
2) family names
3) names that are over-used by parents thinking they are being original
4) names that are so different that people consider them weird

There are nearly 8 billion people on the planet. There's bound to be some weird in there.

All of this. I also fall under "it's not my kid, so I don't care what their name is."

The steer names are great. I’m pulling for “The Business” Great name for a steer

I had to make sure my kids' first and middle names flew off my tongue freely so I could make sure I could properly yell at them. ;)
I nixed several combinations for our kids. I wanted to make sure that the initials didn't spell something or nearly spell something or worse sound like a phrase or sentence (my Mom's initials when she was a kid were CJP - say it outloud). I also wanted to make sure that my kids - especially the girls - had a name that would command respect on the nameplate of her office door. Women have enough of a challenge in the business world without having to overcome name biases. It may not be right but it is just another thing to have to overcome when you are working your way up in business and have to overcome the bias against a name like Candy. My first daughter we wanted to use a family name (from both sides of the family) but it wasn't necessarily perceived as a strong name. We gave her a given name that was a bit stronger and so we could call her the desired name that was a diminutive of that. She would have the option of using either in the business world.

The stranger than fiction one I remember hearing back in the day…parents had been trying to figure out a “different“ name. After the child was born they heard the nurse say something and they thought…that would be a cool name…Their daughter was named Placenta.

Gave me a flashback to an argument little boy me overheard between my mother and my dad's sister. My aunt screamed out my mother's first, last and maiden name in a free flowing insult I'll never forget. Granted my mother's birth name did flow nicely but even little boy me did an internal "Yikes!" at that.

Of course the funniest thing I ever heard (Boxter reminded me of this) was Bill Cosby's comedy about how he and his brother used to think their names were "Jesus Christ" and "Dammit!"

"It was because of my father that from the ages of seven to fifteen, I thought that my name was Jesus Christ and my brother, Russell, thought that his name was Dammit. "Dammit, will you stop all that noise?" And, "Jesus Christ, sit down!" One day, I'm out playing in the rain, and my father yelled, "Dammit will you get back in here!" I said, "Dad, I'm Jesus Christ!""

My wife had a student who's first name was Chinesegirl. She wasn't Asian.
