I thought Thompson had won too but Leigh Diffey is going to want to have that call back. Jumped the gun there.
He probably does but fudging the call probably makes that finish that much more exciting/memorable. I had thought Lyles out leaned him so that next 2 minutes without any commentating or runner celebrating was just pure suspense hoping it would change.

I laugh at the online crying of non-Americans watching the Olympics outraged that the US media and some others track total medals instead of only golds. It really doesn't make sense to me. So China was in the lead 19 golds to 18, but now they're "tied" because both have 19...but the USA has 26 more total medals. I mean that's a pretty ridiculously large tie breaker if you really think that's a tie breaker. No things that are actually tied would have such a lopsided way to resolve the tie.

It's also just ludicrous to ignore everyone but first place.

Ngl I got FIRED UP for the Women’s road cycling. One out of 1000 days you wake up and the power in your legs is on a level that can’t be matched by anyone else I. The world. That was Faulkner today. My favorite USA gold so far. She probably wouldn’t win that race if they rode it every day for the next three years.

I mean let’s be real, the Summer Olympics should just be permanently in the USA.
We own it.

You can agree or disagree, but that’s the way everyone else tracks it.

Just cancel every other medal if gold is the only deciding factor. It's nonsensical when there's such a massive gap in total medal count like this year. It's definitely not a case of Americans being arrogant, and believe me I'm the guy to point that out more than most.

Maybe a 3, 2, 1 point system would be far superior to either.

It won’t matter because China can’t track and field. We will be on top of everything by the end.

3, 2, 1 point system would be US 135, China 98 right now

Seems to make far more sense than this "silver and bronze are equal to zero" that I've never even heard of until this year.

USA is down this cycle in Track and Swim and I think other countries thought this was their year. But we have made it up for it with some surprises like Men’s Gym team, pommel horse guy, women’s mtn bike, women’s rd, etc.

I always thought the point system you mentioned would be a better indication of a countries success personally.
