Ya even since the very end of the first segment technology, reporting, etc was much inferior to what is available since the widespread use of the internet, mobile phones, social media, radar advances, population increase, storm chasing becoming a phenomenon, etc.

Close to that around DSM today. Ankeny shows dew point at 69° around 11am, currently down to 56°. Sketchy business there.

The temperature at which the air must cool to become saturated dropped from 70 to 55. This indicates much drier air is now in place.
