People complain our new uniforms look like Ronald McDonald but like this?
Cardinal and gold are our colors. McDonald's has similar colors. If people want to see Ronald McDonald, that's on them. Not much we can do given we share colors. Those jerseys are relatively simple jerseys that were extremely common in those days. Those designs are much better than anything we've had since. For me, the lighter yellow is an upgrade, but the red needs to be cardinal like we've used since Rhoads.

Who says our uniforms look like Ronald?!?

Cyclone fans or "other"?
There was like 2-3 pages of Pantone color discussion after some were disappointed in the new uniforms the day they were revealed.

The McDonalds BS kills me. It’s a tired talking point from Hok fans with fewer brain cells than sense. Rich coming from a school who ripped off the biggest bandwagon NFL team of the 70’s.

Nobody ever tells Southern Cal they look like McDonalds. I didn’t love the Rhoads uniforms, but I recall people praising USC’s “Timeless Look” and bagging on ours in the same breath. Might have something to do with pedigree and onfield results, because they weren’t that different.

Yeah I mean the McDonald's comparisons are quite obvious. When the actual darker shade of Cardinal is used, there is no McDonald's comp. Our colors and uniforms should 100% match USC. But when we have sh*t that uses generic-ass 'red' and generic-ass 'yellow' - yeah, we should definitely get made fun of for that.

Ronald McDonald really isn't a thing anymore. Our scarred fans seem to be keeping the comparisons alive.

Agree...and as far as uniforms...Ronald (as you pointed out...is he even a thing anymore??) wore yellow and red along with the Golden Arches using that color scheme...but the employees never wore that look that I know of! And I have been eating at McD's far too long! Throwing that "insult" at us only offends those who are 50+ years old or so!

Our colors, yes. And they have since Rhoads, which were USC imitation with the gray facemask.

But our jersey now are a huge upgrade to the Rhoads era unis and a slight upgrade to previous Campbell unis. Although I suspect we missed a little on the cardinal/red on the new ones.

The Rhoads era uniforms were fantastic. Classic design (matching LSU’s, not USC’s). Perfect color comb. He was weird about not letting players wear arm bands or black shoes/socks, which was dumb. Now THAT would have made us look like USC, which honestly would be awesome. Cardinal and Gold is the best combo of colors in the world; we never play them in anything, so what if we look like them (we should).

I personally don’t believe this latest iteration is our “best” jersey. The best iteration was Monty’s JR year (Brock’s freshman) year, which was the first iteration of the CMC “redesign”. The numbers were perfectly sized, the jerseys fit tight and clean. Year 2, they changed them - getting rid of the black collar, making the numbers way bigger for some dumb reason, and adding yellow to the arm elastic portion.

Go back and look and how freaking cool Hakeem Butler or Monty looked in those jerseys. Form fitting, slick, perfect. These last rounds have been baggy and just fit weird. A subtle change it was in the template, but a dumb one nonetheless.

PS. I have stated in this thread that we should never have any part of our logo or yellow touching black. I actually need to walk that back a little bit. The black collar was fantastic. It looked great. It was a bit unique (like Georgia). Again, those dudes look mean in those jerseys! It actually made the “all-Cardinal” combo really solid.

Look at the OU home game that year, and compare it with the Iowa home game the next year (2 different iterations of home Cardinal jersey). Year 2 looks bad, kinda cheesy actually.

The only issue I have with the new jerseys and Rhoads era jerseys is the stripes on the shoulders.

That is where I see the McDonald's comparisons, and I just don't like the look there.

As a kid I LOVED the "Ketchup and Mustard" jerseys of Sage and Seneca, but damn those have not aged well.

I got a lot of s*it for loving the "Bird in a Blender" logo during the Mac years, but my favorite jerseys ever are the Bandhauer/Troy/Darren jerseys, and the Meyer/Blythe jerseys, as I felt they were very simple and to the point of our team colors (and to a lesser extent the "Iowa State Chiefs" jerseys in 2003).

I love the Blacks though (no matter the "era"), and I miss the Greys during the Lanning/Jacob Park seasons. I thought the Greys were unique as f*** (despite the McDonald's shoulder stripes).

The sentiment with the Rhoads jerseys was correct. The execution was awful. Those jerseys are hideous. LSU stripes, but gray facemask and smaller I State logo made them USC.

Hard disagree on cardinal/gold being the best color combos. It's honestly one of the worst outside my allegiance to ISU. There are some variations of cardinal/gold that are cool. The Rhoads unis were not it. And with no white to break up the bad combo, they were extremely ugly.

I agree on the best Campbell era jerseys being the first year of the redesign with the black collar. The numbers were right, as you pointed out. The most recent jerseys are too tight, not too baggy. Look at the lineman every game.

I think the all cardinal were underrated as a set, and I'm one of the few that loves our helmet with the big I-State. That color of cardinal is sharp, and the cardinal facemask looks sweet. It's honestly the best that the I-State logo has ever looked.

So stripes = McDonald's?

I agree that the early McCarney jerseys are severely underrated. Blue accents were understated and the white numbers were classic. Doxson looked like a badass.

Completely disagree on much of what you have here. Rhoads execution was great. Absolutely nothing McDonald’s about them at all. Colors matched USC, which was great and correct. The latest jerseys we revealed a month ago look very McDonald’s. The white actually makes it MORE McDonald’s, particularly the shoulder stripes on the white road jerseys. Very cringe bright red and bright yellow.

And no, the latest iteration was not “too tight”. There are factually baggier, even the lineman. Go look at Year 1 and how perfectly form-fitting (tight) they were. Since then, lots of bagginess and bunched up parts of the jerseys, on the arms, the back, etc. They don’t “fit” as well, because it was factually a slight tweak in the template.

PS. Who doesn’t freaking love Cardinal and Gold? F***ing fantastic combo, very proud that we have these awesome colors as a Cyclone fan.

These were FANTASTIC. Really well done, a very cohesive package, great coloring, even the helmet and logo flow/match seamlessly with the jerseys, both home and away. Classic.

Iowa State with a long 3rd and 12.

Guggenheim up the middle for 2.

That brings out the punt team....
Unfortunately that sounds similar to.....

Iowa State with a long 3rd and 12.

Deckers with a short pass for 2.

That brings out the punt team......

After...1st down run up the middle for 1, 2nd down same run up the middle for negative 3.

The Ronald issue was made worse when we wore all gold unis with a cardinal helmet. Considering his outfit with the red hair. If we would have done that with a gold helmet, it would have changed that look away from Ronald.

You keep saying factually yet provide no facts. Did Nike make a statement about the fit?

Also you know players customize their fit of the jersey right? Brock at one point went with loose arm look like the old days.

In multiple ways these would have transitioned very well to the I State and elimination of blue revamp. Punching Cy on the pants was actually a nice touch. the offset curvy ISU on the chest was kinda bad. A centered logo (like the Purdy era I State) or script Cyclones would have worked well there.
