Sirens going off for high wind isn't a new thing.
Just checked. Groundwater level from surface here is 3 feet now. Still moderate drought.
In Urbandale have some wind......nothing that is bending the tree's. No hail and really not as much lightning and thunder that usually comes with this type of storm. But it is raining in sheets. Haven't seen it rain like this since late last June.
If you're driving in Ames, do not drive under the Grand Ave overpass. Friendly reminder.
1.32" in about 20 minutes. At one point was coming down at 6"/hour. That was insane.
So, still in a drought, but too much rain, so now fields are flooding. But still in a drought. Got it.
We just went ahead and kept her home today. No reason to put her through panicking in front of her friends if the sirens were to go off.
My sump pump is bone dry in WDM. We need SLOW consistent rain, not these 1-2 inch storms in an hour where it all runs off quickly..
I have weather anxiety too. It was tempting to stay home, but I'm at work. Kiddo is at daycare. And we did NOT put out our garbage for collection today to avoid that mess (although we'll probably get the neighbors' trash in our yard).
We had .8" of rain Sunday night and woke up this morning to another .8" in North Ames. Waiting to see what this passing storm drops on us.
Wife just text me that a building for the school district she works for is taking on water.
Tell her to start worrying when the music teacher comes out into the hallway playing their violin
