I wonder if anyone has pressed Illinois consistently? Given that they don't have a natural point guard, it seems like an obvious approach - and it slows them down.

I would expect us to intentionally slow the game down at every chance - including at least a token press and deliberately running the shot clock down. Illinois gets a lot of their offense from fast breaks and attacking early - I think we are perfectly equipped to stop that cold. Note that their fast breaks do NOT come from turnovers, as they are horrible at forcing turnovers.

Fun number - we have forced 624 turnovers on the season. Illinois has forced 313.

Illinois did not handle Penn St's full court pressure very well.

You serious right now????

Houston (TWICE - Including an absolute beatdown)
Kansas at full strength
Baylor

All far more impressive wins than anything Illinois had. BYU was a similar win as Wisconsin.

I fully understand Houston lost their backup center. They are still very much a final 4 contender and top 3 team in the country.
did you not catch the part that I was being sarcastic? They also beat KU, yes it was an exhibition, but they were good enough to beat them.

9:09 tip-off is awfully late for an East coast game
that is brutal, and if we win, I think that actually hurts our recovery for the next game. Guys won't get in until 1 am. Plus, they probably won't sleep much Friday night if they play UConn on Saturday, they will be to amped up to sleep, I know I will be. :)

Illinois is the kind of tournament team that’s scary because of Shannon. He could just take over and go off for 40.
For me the key is limiting him and making the other guys beat you. Hawkins is too erratic. Domask can be good but he isn’t Shannon.

I think If Lipsey and Gilbert see Shannon is on them, take it to him and see if you can pick up some fouls on him.
Illinois’s defense is flat out bad so they should be able to get good looks.

Yeah I feel like the scheduling of some of these games is really bad this year.

That was ... not good basketball by UIUC. Wow, what a tank job - I hope like hell that's the Illini team that shows up Thursday!

They turned the ball over 18 times in that loss at PSU, their high in Big10 play, and since then they are 9-1 with only a 6 point loss to Purdue and they haven't turned it over more than 12 times - while averaging 88 ppg.

I think something in the 18 turnover range is what it's going to take - at the very least 15.

I'm also more sure, thinking about it, that we should press after every make or dead ball the whole game - mostly a token press to make them bleed 8+ seconds before getting into their offense - and then mix it up with the hard press occasionally. From everything I've read and seen, they are the type of team that gets frustrated when you slow them down and make them run a half-court offense over and over

Not liking that tip off time. Gotta sit there all day and have less recovery if we win.
I'll be half ****-faced. Will have to re-watch, if we win, to really have much to say. If we lose I will never see it again.

All I know is last night I watched the live stream with Jeff Goodman and his cronys, and he said ISU stands no chance because we don't have guard play. :explode:
He's such a goober. Didn't see it but I watch sometimes to make fun of him.

That was a generationally bad meltdown, no question.

We do struggle against full court pressure, kinda been a hallmark under Underwood, although honestly I've thought we've had more games this year where we did ok with it.

One thing I will say, I don't think people nationally understand just how ******* good Keshon Gilbert is defensively. I know TJ will have a game plan cooked up, but I think you can throw Keshon on Shannon who will get his but he's going to have to work for every bit of it. Keshon has the defensive chops to make it as hard as can be for him.

Also seems like a game where defensively we'll need to Hason to stay out of foul trouble and get 20 minutes out of him and I'd bet on 15-20 out of Demarion again for his length/defense/rebounding.
