Not exactly your question but KU hasn't been unranked in the final AP poll since 1983.
Outside of the Top Ten in the final AP poll at the end of the season...
Found the below. Looks like they've had a few more "rough" years than I recall. Still great years by most standards, but they've had a few more cycles up and down than I would have expected.

According to Wiki (not definitive, but generally reliable) - KU dropped out in final poll in 1999-2000

Roughly this week that season, KU was #23.
Update/edit - with nod to @Jer - final regular season poll I guess - not the final poll of season.
Second highest ranking in the final poll ever. 99-00 finished #6.

My hot take is that #7 is pretty good.
Yeah, people majorly freaking out that in year 3... after a 2-22 season... we're struggling at times to score is ridiculous with the success TJ has had early on. Yeah, would be great to have some more scorers/scoring, but let's put things into perspective here.

I'll agree, and add that finishing the regular season at #7 has not left me disappointed.
Glad it rebounded back up to a more accurate 6...but as always the Big 12 had 8 the week before they had to start playing each other.

We only dropped one spot? Clearly they haven't seen our offensive metrics over the last 3 weeks.
There will be another poll released next week. Last year final poll was March 13th and first four games were March 14th
Daylight savings time. Everyone had one less hour of sleep that usual so we're all grumpy.

Is this the final AP poll? I thought they did one more after the men basketball championship. Like in football.
And the only reason it’s being discussed so much is because this team has shown it can play at a Final Four level for a fairly decent period of time, and not just a flash in the pan. You are never as good or as bad as you seem, so we’ve regressed hard and folks just hope we can get a little offensive spark going because this team can do something special in the tournament if we do.
