Both of these 8 man teams have over 40 players on their roster.

Maybe they should make a 6A. Move A to 1A and so on and put 8 man at class A. Make them put three more players on the field. Seems like a lot of 8 man teams have over or close to 30 players on their roster. There are a lot of class A rosters with fewer kids. They seem to find a way to get 11 on the field.
Garrigan school board voted for 11. The kids chose to stay at 8. Their JV was heavy in juniors.

let me rephrase.

12 kids.. total. including the 8 on the field.

How many 8 man teams field 12 players? Like I said, those districts are more than likely clinging for life anyway. Consolidate. Don't even have to consolidate districts. Just football. Then you could probably field a JV team.

'Here, play with a bunch of kids you don't really know and get your brains beat in every night!'

There's absolutely nothing wrong with 8 man football.

Why was the kick illegal?

If these 8 man teams went to 11, they wouldn’t be in the finals, probably wouldn’t make the dome.

If you have 12 kids out for football grades 9-12 maybe your school should consolidate. Mormon Trail, I'm looking at you. Chariton, SEW, Clarke and Wayne aren't that far away.

That's what kids need more of is time spent in a bus or suburban.

More teams are likely to field 12-20 players than 40+. Beford and Garrigan are outliers.

These are teams that i know of that have below 20.. could be more. Could they hook-up with another shcool for football? Possibly.. Orient Macksburg/Nodaway. Paton Churdan/Green County. I'm sure there are others. Those are somewhat close together. But you get out into some of these school districts and its not possible because of travel.

Ar-We-Va = 13 players
Morman Trial- 12 players
Meskwaki- 15 players
Lamoni- 19 players
West Harrison- 18 players
Siouxland Christion- 13 players
GMG- 18 players
Easton Valley- 19 players

Central City Springville did for a long time. And they'd play that way starting in middle school. They weren't good but they wouldn't have been regardless.

In connections between coaches it would sound like the kids got a long just fine with each other between schools but there would be weirdness within the specific schools themselves.

The championship games are broadcast statewide, though not on IPTV. But agreed, the whole thing is really dumb.

You need to watch Chris Williams interview with Chris Cuellar of the Iowa High School Athletic Association on the Iowa Everywhere podcast from earlier this week. Cuellar said that the boys association has never, ever had a contract with IPTV for televising football and basketball. The last 10 minutes of the interview is solid.

Arent the finals broadcast on the local Fox channel?

Shows up on my YTTV..

Combine A and 1A into one class, and then divide the 8 man football would be the way to go, If you have 20/25 or more kids out you are in the large school 8 man class, others are below in the small class. The roster difference between schools in 8 man is crazy. There is a beds limit for the class, but somehow teams are getting around it to play 8 man. Gives them a better chance to advance to the dome.
