My ideal winter would be temps in the upper 30s to 40s, heavy snow on Christmas Eve and maybe once or twice in January followed by temps in the upper 40s with occasional light rains in March. This seems reasonable...let's get on this mother nature.
If you want warmer temps things are looking good for you.

Seasonal outlook is out. Equal chances of precip and the potential for slightly above normal temps.

"The 2023-2024 Winter Outlook has been released. El Nino conditions will result in warmer than normal temps across the Midwest and equal chances of below, near, or above normal precipitation."

Great. The weather folks have all the bases covered now. It may or may not precipitate a little or a lot this winter. No way they can be wrong, right? 1697738043931.png

Most of the weather services I follow (for work) are less wishy-washy and correlate a strong El Nino pattern to warmer temps and normal to below precip for the central midwest. Most of the moisture is expected to stay south with the jet stream, and the Mid-Atlantic region may get pounded (TWSS).

We have had 6.5” of rain since early September. That is pretty close to what we had the whole growing season. The last 2 falls have been dry, like no rain during harvest. It has been a nice change.

Looks like some snow chances in central Iowa are popping up for Halloween after all. Still a long ways out but the plunge in temperatures will definitely set the stage.

My weather app says high of 41 next Sunday. Accuweather says 38. Not quite prepared for that.
Yeah looks like a COLD 7-10+ day stretch is coming. Have some outside work to do so hoping to get it done here in the next few days of still good temps.

Vodka Season!

Saturday marked the final time in 2023 that sunset will fall after 6 p.m., and it will be quite a while before we see that happen again.

In fact, sunset won’t fall after 6 p.m. again until daylight saving time resumes on March 10.
It's this based on your location? My weather app says sunset is 6:21 tonight.
