Is 149 also a November wrestle off, or is it confirmed that Paniro is red shirting/suspended/other?

No inside info from me, but at this point, I would guess 149 is probably somewhat settled after this week (“settled” as in how @cyclonenation5 outlined in post #20). Again…no inside info. I’d be shocked if Paniro isn’t cleared at some point, but your guess is probably as good as anyone’s as to “when” on that.

Dumb question, so don’t eat me alive wrestling fanatics. What is the specific point of Wrestle Offs. I get it’s the guys competing for the specific weight class, but it’s not like the winner is guaranteed the spot, right? That is still up to the coaches going into each dual?
I’d say these have very little determination on the starting lineup, even for early season duals.

In reality, this is a good opportunity for the fans to get to see the guys and a chance for the guys to get down to weight and compete.

2 years ago he was a grayshirt and he was coming off surgery, last season he was redshirt and went 8-2 in opens, but there has been speculation of academic issues. Who know's if it's academics, injuries, weight cutting, an attitude adjustment is needed, or if there's something else going on, but he's been a bit absent.
I’ve seen 8-2 thrown around a couple times this past week. For clarity, he was 2-2 vs D1 competition. Only 4 D1 opponents

No inside information, but I’d guess either way Ech is wrestling to start as he’s already burned his RS and Casey doesn’t have the 5 competitions to play with like last year. I’d guess they wait to use Casey until it’s needed, but I could be wrong.

125-149 are all going to be very interesting.

Kysen probably the favorite…Perryman looked tough early but seemed to lose steam late against Fuessley. Both erratic it seems.

Frost boys will bring it and have a chance in both weights.

149 I have no clue what to expect other than two good dudes scrapping and we’ll be in good shape with whoever wins that spot.

Rankings agree but it seems like we have a bunch of top 20 guys from 125-157 (including multiple at a couple of those weights), hopefully a few of those weights emerge to top 10 range.

I'm pumped for Thursday. It's great to have depth like we do. Lot's of matches to get excited about. I'll predict winners by listing them first in these matches:

125 - Kysen vs Perryman (Perryman has a bright future tho)
133 - Frost vs Grice (I know nothing of Grice so excited to see what he's got)
141 - Redding vs Frost
149 - Swiderski vs Ech (Match of the night IMO...Both are dynamite on their feet)
157 - Kraisser vs Stanek - This is Kraisser's semi final before facing Chittum
165 - Carr vs Euton (I hope Euton can score some points)
174 - MJ vs Carter Schmidt
184 - Helgeson vs Naak (I think this will be close)
197 - Broderson vs Nando (I'm curious to see Nando's progress)
Hwt - Yonger vs Bruening

I thought Ech was really impressive Saturday. Casey will have to really bring it. Great matchup. I was surprised Nando handled Hagerty but he looked good. Ultimately though, I think Broderson will do very well at 97 not having to cut so much. Euton looked really good too. Agree with the other poster, Euton v Rojas will be interesting next year at 65.

Those in the know have said no.
According to AE he can make 141. He’s at ISU to get a degree. He wants to be a World Champ and really doesn’t care about NCAA titles (if you were from another country would you?). As far as Folkstyle is concerned he has told Dresser that he will go the weight that helps the team the most.

My take is Dresser wants AE at 149 to push Casey with the unknown of Johnson this season. If Casey wins the wrestle-off and appears to have made the advances needed in his mat wrestling then he may give AE the permission to try 141 especially if Johnson would be able to wrestle later this year (should know by Thursday).

I really think the ,change in TD rules helps Casey big time. If he gets 2 TD's in a match it will be hard to beat him based of escapes and riding time. So while i hope his mat wrestling has improved, the new rules definitely help him big time.

Why would AE not make 141 if he could?

Gotcha thanks for the feedback, good news is there's good options at all those weights no matter the outcome

It can often depend on the school too.

One of my high school classmates beat Paul Jenn at Iowa during wrestle-offs but Iowa still started Jenn anyway (he was a senior and also not bad /had more experience).

Here (as stated by others) it usually determines who starts at the position to start the year but in no way means that can't change later, due to practices or performance.
