Cyclones in the pros 2023-2024 (hoops)

Awesome that you posted that article. He was off my radar, for sure. I look forward to reading that.

Nowadays guys like Brackins don't have a spot in the NBA -- 5s have to be lob/dunker/rim protectors and 4s have to be able to stretch the D from the arc (See Niang, Georges).
I think he fits in now better than back then, frankly. Seems to be what he says in the article as well.

I found these notes on the Cavs' training camp kind of interesting:

3. But let’s stick to the Cavs. They already had a good culture last season. They feel it will be even better this year with the likes of newcomers Max Strus, Georges Niang, Ty Jerome and Damian Jones. Oh yeah, and Tristan Thompson (more on him in a minute).

4. That’s especially the case with Niang, who manages to play with a real edge and yet generally keeps things light and fun. Niang has been reunited with Donovan Mitchell, as the two were also teammates in Utah. Mitchell made it pretty clear he’s glad they’re back together again.

Matt and Nick Weiler-Babb on ESPN+ this afternoon. I believe. I discovered this on ESPN+ but I see that it says ESPN3 and I'm not even clear what that designation means anymore. But I think our guys will be on today in high-level competition at 1pm CT and 1:15 pm CT respectively.

In Portland's Tuesday night pre-season game vs. the New Zealand Breakers (who play in Australia's NBL if you're into overseas hoops references), George Conditt was a DNP. The Blazers played 15 guys so that's not a great sign for sticking on the roster. Hopefully, he ends up on their G League squad, at least.

Tyrese Haliburton has not appeared yet for the Pacers in pre-season games. My guess is that he's being rested after playing in the World Cup (I admit that's speculation).

I have been waiting to post on Marial Shayok, who looked very good this summer for South Sudan in the World Cup. He averaged 20 ppg last year for the Maine Celtics and his Wiki still has him as a player for Maine. G League rosters are not yet readily available. What is clear is that he's not on the Celtics training camp roster so I'm not 100% sure he'll be with Maine. But he's not currently playing overseas. Strange case, Marial. He seems like he could stick on a squad as a 3-and-D guy.

Any details on the deal? I haven't seen anything.

Would be pretty wild if he's able to stick on a roster for a while. Good on him.
According to this article, it’s a non-guaranteed deal, but could be converted to a 2-way. He’s likely to end up with the G-league

Conditt appears likely to follow Smith’s trajectory and land with the Remix, but his non-guaranteed deal could also be converted into a two-way contract or a standard contract if he impresses during the preseason.

Wow - maybe George will make it after all - this SB Nation article says he has a good chance of sticking. I don't know who Portland has on 2-ways:

Conditt may have a better post-ISU career than actual ISU career. Was always close, but man was he a black hole at the top of the key.

Have to admit I was a bit shocked when he signed here
