#2 Iowa State @ #5 Missouri

I don't get the forfeits at this level, we don't have anyone to wrestle at 133? I mean who cares if they get stuck, at least we didn't just give 6 points away. Maybe there is a good reason why, I am sure there is.

I agree, a Forfeit really puts you behind the 8-Ball, I would think our backup would be pretty good.

Is a Forfeit better in terms of seeding for the Big 12 Tournament? I'm not sure.

you obviously dont get it, you are right. Shaffer, the only back up, is out with an injury. there are a few freshmen that could fill in, but burning a redshirt right now would not be a wise move. Fanthorpe is hurt, and they arent going to risk anything till big 12s, when they have to.

duals are for pride and nothing more. the national championship is won in a tournament format. beating mizzou means nothing, though losing to them is unpleasant. burning a redshirt this late in the year would be essentially wasting a season for a freshman, who would have to take a rs again next year.

What about using the 125 backup? Even if he is overmatched, his job would be to limit the match to 3 points. Worst case you give up 6.

We are saving a red-shirt until Fanthrope gets healthy. The duals really don't mean much in the long run, all that matters is March. You don't burn a red-shirt this far into the season when you would maybe wrestle 5 times maximum.

They're also used for seeding in the Big 12 Tourney, so I wouldn't say it's only pride they're for.

What has happened to Askren? He was #1 as a freshman until Backes rolled him on his back in this meet two years ago. He's hardly a top 5 wrestler anymore.

I obviously don't get it, I bow to you sir.......:notworthy:

both redshirts if i remember correctly. actually shaffer isnt even on the roster anymore (backup injured 133). the only real way they could fill the gap would be dalton jensen bumping down, and 8 lbs is alot for a smaller college wrestler who probably has <10% body fat anyway.

That makes sense, you don't want to burn a Redshirt, just for a Dual. I thought we had more available wrestlers at 125 and 133.

How will this effect Fanthorpe's Seed at 133. He is the defending Big 12 Champion? Any thoughts?

I'm starting to get a little concerned about the Big 12 Tournament. I think ISU will be favored, but it will be a very close tournament.

Are you sure you're not thinking of his brother? Also, he just went against Varner. Varner is a machine on the mat.

Your thinking of Ben, he graduated already.

He is correct. MAX was Ranked #1, Undefeated as a Freshman in February of 2007. Then he ran into Backis

I was Actually a little concerned about Cael's record, thinking MAX would go 4 years undefeated if he could go his Freshman year undefeated. Then Backas Pinned him, and Mas lost his 2 NCCA tournament matches and now his is Barely a Top 10 wrestler.

No, I was thinking of Max. He was a freshman the year his brother was a senior. They both were ranked #1 at their weights and Max was getting comparisons to Sanderson as he was undefeated going into the match with Backes. Kurt manage to pin him when Max thought he was manuevering for a pin himself. Backes went on to win the NCAAs that year and Max has not been the same since.
