Depending on how severe it is those bone bruises can be painful as heck and take a bit to heal.Travis Kelce has a bone bruise and his knee is swollen but the ligaments are not torn.
Amen to that. Seriously, does he think that taking a year off is going to help him? Hell be 30 ****** years old next year! No team is going to want to pay him that much. He needs to take what the Chiefs are offering him, otherwise his career is as good as overJones is a moron
Idk about that... but his prime income earning years will be over.Amen to that. Seriously, does he think that taking a year off is going to help him? Hell be 30 ****** years old next year! If he doesn't sign a new deal here soon his best decision financially would be to report to the team and start earning some of his 2023 salary. The longer he sits out the more he loses this year and the less he'll cost KC to keep him on a franchise tag for next season so every game he sits out is basically having twice the impact on his earnings right now. Sounds like at worst he hold out to week 8 but if he does that he forfeits about $10 mill this year so instead of taking around a $32 mil cap hit next year on a franchise tag it would be about 23-24 mil which the Chiefs would surely tag him at that number over the full hit he would have cost had he reported for week 1. So he's only hurting himself the longer he holds out, either needs to get a deal done else he loses a good chunk of earning potential this year and next and has to hope that the money he is seeking is still out there 2 years from now.Amen to that. Any leverage that Jones had in the negations ended when the preseason was over. If he doesn't report today, he starts losing game checks at around $1.1 million a week or so. He will be losing money that he will never make up the rest of his career. He said he could afford to lose the money, but that is a ton a money to just walk away from and at age 30 he is reaching the point when a player on the Dline is getting worse not better.
No matter how much conditioning Jones has been doing, its going to take him a couple of weeks to get back into football playing shape. This is just not going to end well for him, and should be a lesson to all the players, when you ask for the moon, generally you fall back to earth broken and not better off.
It's a little bit different of a situation as Bell was essentially protesting the second straight season of the franchise tag. It unfortunately coincided with the beginnings of the RBs are not worth the long term big money deals after their rookie contracts revolution.I've said it here before, players should have taken notice of how things played out for Le'Veon Bell when he held out. He not only lost a bunch of earnings but didn't get the contract he thought he could and eventually was out of the league not long after he was in his peak years. You not only get labeled a headcase but the older you get and the less you are on the field the chance of landing that big contract after sitting out dwindles away the longer you hold your ground.
I agree, it's not exactly apples to apples comparison especially with the RB position that doesn't age well, but some similarities as Jones is gambling that at his age even with holding out he's going to come out ahead. It's a little bit different of a situation as Bell was essentially protesting the second straight season of the franchise tag. I think what is complicating the Jones matter is Nick Bosa is still holding out. You essentially have the top 2 defensive players from last year refusing to play until they get new contracts.
If the Lions win tomorrow night, he'll still have some leverage. Chiefs are in win now mode. Jones knows that, and he's banking on that fact keeping the Chiefs at the bargaining table.Any leverage that Jones had in the negations ended when the preseason was over. I think Skyy Moore takes a big leap forward and becomes Mahomes goto WR target. If Toney can stay healthy he is in the picture there too. Have a feeling they will spread the ball around more with the WR depth. So in other Chiefs news, because im tired of Chris Jones, who is our leading receiver this year not named Travis Kelce?
I like Justyn Ross too, but i dont think he emerges until week 8 or soI think Skyy Moore takes a big leap forward and becomes Mahomes goto WR target. If Toney can stay healthy he is in the picture there too. Have a feeling they will spread the ball around more with the WR depth.
Just how many plays could he play tomorrow night and how effective would he be? He has some leverage because he is under contract, but unless the Dline is totally inept, which I doubt it will be, then he really can't do much to force the Chiefs to meet his demands. If the Lions win tomorrow night, he'll still have some leverage. I'm not claiming that Jones losing game checks won't be incentive to him getting a deal done. But losing games is also a great motivator, especially when it comes to a team that is a favorite to win a Championship and their best defensive player. Opening the season with a home loss will not do the Chiefs bargaining power any favors at all. So, yeah Jones will lose some leverage when faced with missing game checks, but to say that "any leverage he had" has ended, isn't necessarily true.Just how many plays could he play tomorrow night and how effective would he be? Like all these player holdouts the player has all the cards until the season starts, because outside of the fine, there is nothing the team can do. But once the season starts, then the player loses leverage more for each game he misses, gets less money this year and less money guaranteed next season. Jones is not Boas that is still young enough to make that money back, so unless he can force the Chiefs to trade him to someone willing to pay him what he wants, we will never recoup the money he is losing now.
Jones is also risking losing the other players in the locker room, which has already stated with the comments by Kelsy and Mahomes, football tends to be an All-in game when the season starts, and his teammates are going to start thinking is he with us or only thinking about himself?
Yes, I shouldn't have said his leverage ends, it just takes a hit every game he misses. And if the Chiefs start to lose games because the defense is not getting the job done, then Jones's teammates are also going to wonder why he is still sitting out when they are playing. I look at Jones's level of leverage was at his highest the first day of camp, and is moving downward in a straight path until after game 8. From that point he has none, loses a full year of service time and will be in the exact same position he was in when this all started, minus the money of course.I'm not claiming that Jones losing game checks won't be incentive to him getting a deal done. If KC comes out, beats the Lions, and looks good doing it, then yeah, I expect Jones will be running out of options. But if the Lions win, and the Chiefs D gets gashed in the process, Jones will continue to have some bargaining power.
