The offense is a project. 30-0 lead is great and all, but don’t pretend it was the offense that did that.

I'm not but one of their scores was a 20 yard drive ending with a (gasp!) Qb sneak after a long punt return.

And how long has it been since ISU has had a pick 6?

Offense is usually an early project especially after so many changes so I'm not getting why people are complaining after a solid win against a program that usually gives ISU fits.

Offense wasn’t any good. I don’t agree with letting off peddle like what was done in the second half. With so many new faces, more in game reps are needed, not less. Would like them to get use to scoring touchdowns, not getting comfortable going 3 and out.

But the improved special teams will be the difference in some of these one possession games and will likely be the difference in going to bowl game vs staying home at the end of the season.
The thing w/ CMC is that he’s a team first coach. Winning games is through game control and managing risk in all phases of the game. Risk control is big in his approach. Some programs get stud play makers and, on offense, you can let them fly with a serviceable QB. ISU isn’t that fortunate so managing risk makes more sense. It makes sense as a strategy considering the overall talent he can get, but it must be incredibly tough in practice when the players want to make plays.

Expecting him to just let Brecht start throwing deep balls in the second half to bury UNI is just missing his whole approach as a coach. CMC is stubborn and has a vision for what could work with ISU’s resources, making that happen is what separates the best coaches from the good coaches. He’s not a let-it-fly type - expecting or wanting him to be is missing the point.

Rocco is the man going forward obviously. I was so hoping Kohl would come in and blow the doors off. Should be an interesting QB dynamic going forward.

Are people “complaining” or calling a spade a spade?

We had one scoring drive for 71 yards that was impressive. We had another that was technically 87 yards, but there were two personal foul penalties (face mask and roughing the passer) on that drive.

Other than that, we didn’t really do anything against an FCS program.

yeah kohl looked like a true freshman for sure. Rocco had a really good day overall. bummer to see the overthrows when a receiver blows by the coverage. gotta hit those. in a 3 score win, that is picking at nits obviously

So if ISU had 500 yards of offense with a bunch of big plays does that automatically mean they're good with a whole season left?

This just crazy and you comfortably win by 21 points.

Offense definitely needs some work. The first game is always a throw away game. It will get better. But, if you’ve been a cyclone fan for any time then you can see the difference in special teams. That is what made me excited today. Again, if you’ve been a cyclone fan for anytime you know we have lost a lot of games because of special teams. When’s the last time a kicker nailed a 55 yard FG into the wind? Our return yards were great. Our protection was great. Our punter was incredible. I’m happy
Why does it have to be a throw away game?
Why would we open up the playbook against a terrible UNI when we have Iowa coming up?
Practice!

I was pleasantly surprised at today's game. We have a punter and a field goal kicker and the ability to kick it into the end zone. All improvements over previous yrs.
Defense looked good the pick six was fun.
Other than the ticket line being slow it was OK. Water has Improved with the supplemental big blue coolers on the concourse.
Overall it was a good experience today.
