***Official 2023 Chicago Cubs Thread***

Send Mastro down and let’s ******* fight tomorrow.

PCA, 8
Hoerner, 4
Happ, 7
Belli, 3
Suzuki, 9
Gomes, 2
Swanson, 6
Candy, 5
Tauchman, DH (get an on base fighter for Burnes)

Madrigal deserves to be out there but I’d want him to come in and hit for about 3-4 of those guys with a runner on 2nd or 3rd and the game on the line.

I may get hate for this but that's ok.

2017 - 25-22
2018 - 33-19
2019 - 27-18
2020 - 11-5 (Despite finishing the season with a losing record)
2021 - 21-15
2022 - 28-23
2023 - 27-11

172 -113, a .604 winning percentage, would be the 5th best record in the MLB this year.

This is Craig Counsell's record in 1 run games the last 7 years. While I'm sure luck is a factor, I would argue a large part of that is his ability to manage games.

I hate it, but you pretty much have to right about this.

Clevenger is a grade A nozzle but he's on waivers and would be useful if he somehow fell to the Cubs. I'm thinking Bader could be potentially useful as well.
I can’t stand the dude, but I think he could be a decent bullpen piece with his funky delivery. I don’t really want him near our rotation though

I may be wrong but using Spotrac here's what I got regarding Giolito's status:

Giolito was owed $10.4 million this season.

He was on the White Sox for 120 of the 187 days in the MLB calendar, or 64.2% of the season.

Angels are on the hook for $3.69 million the next 67 days.

Excluding today, there are 33 days remaining until October 1.

33/187 = 17.6%

17.6% would mean Giolito is looking at costing $1.8 million

Spotrac has us with about $11 million in space, but I believe I read somewhere that at the deadline, we were much closer. My guess is that if (when) Bellinger opts out, that $5.5 million would be connected to this year, but not positive on that.

Looks like we're going with a similar game plan as we had with Keller and the Pirates; swing at the first strike and be aggressive. Didn't pay off against Keller, didn't look great other than Hoerner this time around.

Will be interesting to see if it works out. Love the roll of the dice, only problem is if it doesn't work, he'll have a low enough count he can easily throw a CG.

Three innings, six base runners, no runs. This feels like a butthole clenching type of night. I better grab a beer

Be interesting to see if they let Steele throw 100+ tonight. If he does that likely means we'll see a call up starter Friday. To give Justin and the rest of the staff an extra day of rest.
