***Official 2023 Chicago Cubs Thread***

I believe the sac fly would’ve been the 3rd out, so any runs after that wouldn’t count. Could be wrong with that.

Fact is, Swanson doesn’t make that error, only one run scores that whole inning.
Actually I may have that wrong, I asked my dad and he thinks it's 4 earned that inning. But I guess your point that the error caused the rest is true.

Candelario knocking the ball down saves the 5th run.

In total, with a competent defense, it should be 1-1. Our defense is why we're in this position.

That being said, 6 of the Brewers first 12 batters have hit the ball 98 mph or harder; gotta stop letting them barrel them up.

He has four earned, but points still remains, with good fielding, he may only have one at this point.

He got slapped around, but there was only 1 earned that inning.

Just don’t let that **** happen again and we’ll win this one.
All 4 runs were earned. It was a hit and an error so the error didn't add runners just advanced them. Second HR made them all earned as they would of scored regardless of where they were.

Now the 5th run wasn't earned as he wouldn't of been in scoring position.

Great piece of hitting by Tellez there. Great location in that breaking ball for once and he hit it anyway.

Yeah, learned something new. Was always under the impression earned runs would act as a “shoulda been” out.

Runner “shoulda been” out at second, then the fly ball.

**** ERA, I want a “shoulda been” stat

I think you probably just have to eat this L and plan on Taillon throwing as many pitches as he can until you throw out a couple low leverage guys or position players to finish the game. Can’t mortgage the rest of the series just cause Taillon is bad.

It’s a tad early to worry about this strategy yet.

Every time I see Taillons face I think of John Lackey. Can't get it out of my head.

If you get through four and the offense isn't doing anything, with a low opposing pitch count, you definitely rol with this strategy. Roll out the scrubs and see what they can do.

I know I've already ranted on him once but my God Swanson has been terrible this month. .172 BA and he's looked completely helpless at the plate tonight.

It would’ve been the way you think but the official scorer ruled it a single and throwing error instead of just a throwing error on Swanson. Which I think I disagree with the ruling but MLB clearly has instructed to be very pro-hitter in regards to errors this year

Yeah, fielders choice/error makes more sense to me. The runner would've been out if the throw had been clean.

Looks like Miley is going to do a good job of keeping the Brewers bullpen rested tonight.... And just as I say that Wisdom hits one

I think it's leaned that way for a while. More importantly is the official scorer as some tend to rule more favorably for the home team. Even though they are technically hired by the comms office, many are likely not completely impartial.
